While I agree with wanting a mascot, please explain how not having one has killed this athletic department.
Cayenne was not the answer. But when your nickname is Ragin'Cajuns, I'm not sure what the answer is.
And, judging by what I've seen here, no one here does either. Because EVERY suggestion on here has been hammered by other posters on this board.
I don't have a solution. Therefore I don't complain about what we don't have as far as a mascot is concerned.
I think part of the issue is we keep trying to come up with something that is "Cajun."
Here's a trivia question: What do elephants have to do with Alabama?
I think we are limiting ourselves where ideas are concerned.
So to answer your trivia question, I THINK the elephant had something to do with a newspaper article back in the day describing the Alabama football team so it stuck.
As far as the mascot here, it creates fan engagement. A mascot goes and visits schools, goes into the community, and can create even more of a national identity if it works well. To me, it's more about who is inside the costume than what the costume is. You already know the story of the Cajun Chicken. Mr. Heim picked that chicken costume as a last minute option, but then his antics inside the costume turned the Cajun Chicken into a Lafayette legend. Plus, it's low hanging fruit. How can we do the harder things in pushing our brand and identity if we can't even get a mascot?
Stop with the low hanging fruit crap. That's about the fourth time today you've said that.
If it was that low, it would be done by now. And, we can't get anything close to a consensus on what would be a good mascot. So obviously that fruit is up in the tree.
A mascot, whether it's a gator, a catahoula, a freaking pepper or a baby elephant....or a bird to honor Cajun Vic isn't going to push brand or identity nearly to the extent you think,
I'm with MelRock. I personally am ok without.
Because without is better than making the wrong choice.
Moreover, the Cajun Chicken was never a mascot. He was an entertainer. We have NEVER had an acceptable mascot since we left Bulldogs behind almost 50 years ago. Look at mascots across the country. What do they do?????
. . . The Bird is far more important than a mascot no matter whose lab it may be . . .
Who says it's not being discussed? Like I said, no mascot is better than a bad choice.
And, please tell me how you're furthering the brand by posting our lack of mascot every day on X (you being Ragin' Review). You aren't moving the idea down the road any faster. You think doing something about it every day is going to get something done. It isn't....
UL mouth piece at work
mascot or not, why did they pull my ole pal russell out of the nursing home to get butts in the seats at cajundome games?? and wow people showed up to the game didnt they and before you say it was the team the same team played a week later in front of a thousand people. if mascots dont matter why do only 8 programs not have one?? guess were smarter than everybody else. our marketing is sooooo superior to our peers isnt it.
