Apparently having a mascot or not has little bearing on growing attendance. But since most folks like our friends in the animal kingdom maybe we should invite Zooziana to parade some little zoo animals through Cajun Field each home game. Sort of a mascot of the day! The zoo gets publicity, kids and a few adults get excited to see the zoo animals. Then the 'mascots' go back home to bed. Everyone's happy!
There is room for all the podcasts. including the one I am involved with. Jay has the advantage of being able to interview coaches and players. Jay’s are part of his job with Learfield. He actually has been doing them for at least 3 years. His approach is from a media standpoint and I like the fact he can go into more depth due to additional time available. Ragin Review says they approach things from a fan’s perspective and that often has more emotion than logic. Nothing wrong with that as they are the voice of many fans. They vent at times like many do and that is healthy for many vs keeping frustration bottled in. At We’re Talkin, we do approach things from a more analytical perspective. That simply fits the personalities of the participants. We are numbers people. It has been said I look at things the way a coach might. That is only partially true. No way I will ever come close to feeling the pain those guys do after a loss. It is their career on the line every time out. Still, bottom line is that all of our podcasts “spread the brand across the land”. Yes I stole that line from the Ragin Review guys. I don’t think they will mind.
Nobody gives a crap about a mascot or animals on the field. If you want kids to WANT to go to Cajun Field then give out iPads for $2.99 like Chili's and they'll be begging to go every weekend.
Stop grasping at straws with all of these goofy gimmicks. Lean into the fanbase. Lafayette loves to drink, loves live music, loves sports, loves to eat, and parents love to drag their kids along to these events. One day our kids will drag their kids to these things, and another Lafayette tradition is born in the tears of their protests.
The University is so hell-bent on making everything "family friendly" thay they're killing every aspect of GameDay that makes the experience "Louisiana", "Ragin", or "Cajun".
Lipstick up the press box and outside appearance, add a few modern amenities, FIX THE FREAKIN CONCESSIONS, and turn CF into a 30-35k stadium that's full of people that are loud, wild, beer-buzzed, full of fried food, and obsessed with football.... ya know, filled with people you would describe as Ragin Cajuns.
Good post...Hmmm..you mentioned live music...nothing would help bring the Ragin and Cajun culture back to CF faster than featuring any one of a hundred Grammy noms and winners who are in the area ....
Imagine...Louis and Andre Michot at mid field pregame playing a 2 minute medley, then joining the POA in playing the national anthem...After that their music is featured all night, especially at hype time..
Sweet Cecilia, Sonny Landreth, Pine Leaf Boys, etc, etc, a different act each home game..
