Marlin Contract Extension - FOUR MORE YEARS!

My primary criticism of Marlin is that we can not maintain consistent success near the top of the conference. We have 3 top 3 finishes in his entire tenure here. Only 2 in the top 2 (1 #1/1#2). So while we won the conference last year, my excitement in the program remains low. Because if history is any indication, we are in for several 4th, 5th, 6th, or worse finishes before we are back in a position to contend. THAT is what keeps interest in this program low. When you are dependent on one big season every 4-5 years to carry your fan support, excitement wanes in the "off years" and by the time the big season rolls around it's half over before people somewhat tune in. Here's to hoping Bob bucks the trend in the years to come.

You say mediocrity, but since the 2010-2011 season, only one school has won the SBC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament with an automatic bid more than Louisiana. Georgia State (4), who finished dead last in 2022-23 with a 10-21 record, 3-15 in conference.

Averaging 10.5 conference wins over that span with an average finish of 4th is kinda what mediocrity is, especially in a fairly poor basketball conference for much of that time. That's also while spending much of that time as the conference's highest paid coach.

You say that like its supposed to make things better. This conference is so horrible when it comes to basketball. So every 4 years, you are the best of the worst. Hooray. So you settle for mediocrity. I prefer not too. I still think Marlin has something on the AD, UL president or both. That is the only way he has remained. This one bid league is a joke.

This conference just got a hell of a lot better with the new additions. I am excited for MBB, even if Marlin is guaranteed to be here for a while longer I guess but last year was fun.

Rewarding a coach yet putting the coach on a short leash does not happen unless the coach is an idiot with off the court public drama.

Nobody expected 4 more years.

In 13 seasons, we've finished outside the Top 6 only 3 times.
We've finished in the Top 4, 8 out of 13 seasons.

I see 5 each 20 win seasons in 13 tries. Last year was the first in 5 years.

The growth of the original Big East and ESPN coincided with that time frame.

FIU/SDSU was an 100% anomaly; even one non power conference team making runs that deep falls between blue moons and Hailey’s Comet.
