Wasn't Bob supposedly retiring 2 or so years ago? Also of note, I understand he won conference so he gets 1 year extension but why 3? What is his base salary now?

So this clown could have gone 3-27 then win the conference tournament and kept his job after his previous 12 year track record ? Oh, ok.

Yep. Automatic extension if the team wins the conference tournament. The good ole boy network needs to GEAUX.

That is technically correct. However it is unrealistic to think that would happen. Teams that win conference tournaments are teams that are improving their play as the season winds down. That provision is standard for most coaches in the country. It is not unique to us.

Quit acting like the program sucks.
20 wins ? And you’re proud of that ? Should have known.

2 things can be true at the same time. Winning an average of 20 games per season in a decade indicates you do not suck. I guess it depends on your definition of "suck" To me, it would be a 0.500 record or less. Of course I am an engineer and go by numbers. On the other hand, the results may not be the level of excellence some set their standards by or what they believe is achievable. They may think a championship needs to be attained 50 percent of the time.

Yes, he gets a 1 year extension until March 31, 2024 but this new contract is for 3 years and actually doesn’t even go into effect until April 1, 2024!

$533,550 annual salary, so no pay cut there because that’s about what he was making before.

$600,000 buyout if fired before March 31, 2025. Decreases by $200,000 each subsequent year.

If we really want to talk about the numbers, shouldn’t we discuss the only 1 20 win season in the last 5 years when discussing the 20 win average over the decade?

Almost all of those 20 wins are against lower level competition.

Let's pretend this made up metric for success (20 wins) is something worth aspiring to:

Over the last 5 years: we have hit the mark 1 time (last season with 26 wins - "missed the mark" seasons of 14, 16, 17, & 19 wins). We averaged 18.4 wins per season over that stretch.

The 5 seasons prior to that: we hit the mark 4 times, and the only season we missed it was a 19 win season (22.4 win average).

My primary criticism of Marlin is that we can not maintain consistent success near the top of the conference. We have 3 top 3 finishes in his entire tenure here. Only 2 in the top 2 (1 #1/1#2). So while we won the conference last year, my excitement in the program remains low. Because if history is any indication, we are in for several 4th, 5th, 6th, or worse finishes before we are back in a position to contend. THAT is what keeps interest in this program low. When you are dependent on one big season every 4-5 years to carry your fan support, excitement wanes in the "off years" and by the time the big season rolls around it's half over before people somewhat tune in. Here's to hoping Bob bucks the trend in the years to come.
