At this point in the season bringing up Marlins salary or contract to prove a point is just a red herring to distract from having no point at all.

The concern at this point in the season is why does this team have zero depth? Inexcusable at any rate.

It goes hand in hand because like the rest of us, results are expected to compliment pay. The man is paid the highest salary in the conference to do a job, and that includes recruiting. The fact that we obviously can’t recruit is part of the reason why people are asking why he’s getting paid a certain amount of money since this team’s lack of depth is getting exposed.

Like I’ve mentioned before, all we have heard over the past few years is how great their recruiting classes have been. Well, where is it? I haven’t seen it yet. And to say that some true freshman like Julien, who hasn’t played a single second of college basketball, would’ve caused some random 180 of what were are seeing now is laughable.

So because the attendance last year was the lowest in a long time do you believe Napier should have been fired? Because if by not showing up represents a displeasure with the coaching staff, this means he should have been let go?

Fans not showing up may show displeasure with the staff, but it also hurts the morale of the players and makes us look bad to other recruits.

It was his first year, I don't think it's a relatable arguement.

No one is analyzing his salary. They are saying that the results he achieves are not commensurate with the salary he receives. That has been true in all but one or two of the years he has been at UL.

There are lots and lots of overpaid coaches. Knowing this fails to scratch the root of their deficiencies.

This is another bad take in my opinion. Why is that a number of MBB fans go through such lengths to defend Coach Marlin that they even bring up other sports, or the names of other HC at this program? This past week someone asked similar questions concerning UL Baseball in defense of Coach Marlin, "Why isn't Coach Robichaux held to the same standard as some of you want to hold Bob Marlin after not making a regional in 3 years?" I answered by asking them a question, "Are you really comparing Bob Marlin's tenure to a Coach that will eventually be inducted into the UL , Louisiana and very possibly NCAA College Baseball Halls of Fame? It's become that rediculous in the manner in which some of you have gone after people that buy season tickets, are RCAF members and have had enough of what they've seen this season.

I understand Coach Marlin is a good guy, runs a clean program and graduate's his athletes, so do a number of other coaches. None of them, including Bob Marlin are ever more important than the UL Athletic Program! And for the record, I'm not in favor of firing Coach Marlin. I would like to see him straighten out his team this season and put together another squad to make a run at the league championship next season. His been given a contract extension to show UL's commitment to him, but that doesn't mean he get's a pass for his team's current lack of depth because holes in his recruiting classes and his poor performance against the bottom dwellers in this conference even with injuries.

Hypothetically if we had 2 or 3 seasons of bad baseball would those same people abandon the team on the field after putting up the funds they have.

My point is that, I am no way suggesting coach Marlin has the team where I expected them to be. I am not taking up for him in the lack of recruiting. But I won't abandon the student athletes that put in the time and effort because we are losing. I am a fan of the university regardless of the win/loss record. I have voiced my displeasure with those who have the power but won't willingly not show up to a sporting event because we are losing. I believe in other methods, but to each his own.

The other teams are surpassing us because they are bringing in thugs that can hoop. If we bring in those kinds of kids people would be complaining because we are a team full of thugs that don't know how to represent the University. No one will ever be satisfied.

Coach Napier didn't bring in any thugs and as you stated fans didn't show up this past season for him either. Once apathy sets in it's very hard to overcome and after winning 27 games last season, many people, fans and non-fans are apathetic to Coach Marlin. It's up to him to fix it and in the mean time I'm not going to throw fans under the bus. This is not HS or Middle School where you have to support the program because your child is playing in the program. College sports has become semi-pro sports, otherwise we wouldn't be paying a stipend to athletes. I hope Coach Marlin turns things around and I hope some people aren't wishing for his failure to get rid of him because I can't stomach that either.

Marlin hasn't a tenth the fan good will Robe has built up. He's gone to the NCAA once. The NIT once because he failed in his no1 seeding. He's had major problems with coaches, players, AAU (love um or hate um you need to be in good graces with them). You really should know that bringing Robe as a mirror for Big Fish is a non starter.

Now to Robe. I'm thinking of two times his capital came under stress. Immediately before Deggs, and since Deggs. Pitching kept the wolves at bay until last year but they were howling last season and the stadium was often way more tickets sold than attendance. He's made a needed change, but he'd better have a better year than last year or there's going to be a lotta vacancy.
