I'll go with option two, Alex. I gave further thought and so stated. If your hypothetical is correct (and I don't agree with it), there is still no reason to give an extension.

Also, didn't Mike say earlier that they lowered the buyout amount.

I have no problem with a raise and extension in exchange for a lower buyout. Seems to benefit both parties. If he performs, he has earned it and he makes more for longer.

If not, we buy him out for less. Sounds like a win - win.

What a slow RP day that we would banter over Marlin's extension or his record of last year, each of which is a fait accompli.

If the extension is 2-years in advance, yes.

I can see renewals occurring 1-year in advance for recruiting purposes.

But this perpetual "I have 2-years or more on my contract" is stupilly.

Except we could have done nothing. After this season, he is in the final year of his contract. If you want to extend after this season, you could have done the same thing as this year. If you did not want to extend his contract, I imagine, but don't know for sure, that the buyout on the last year of the contract would have been pretty small.

Obviously Dr Maggard had his reasons, cause I don't think he is the type to fall in love with ANY coach for too long.

I agree. And, if I had to bet on my opinion or his, I would place a big bet (at least $10.00, which is a big bet for me) on him. He's probably right, I'm probably wrong, I just don't know why.....

I don’t know details if buyout. I do know it drops 175 grand as each year goes by. I had said I don’t think a buyout is a problem if disaster strikes. I base that on how Hud was handled. Lump sum he received was actually less than what he would have earned had he been given an annual amount. This is moot at this stage as decision has been made. Also making it moot is that we are likely to fare similarly in the recent past in the next two years. Fact is administration will not consider a change for one second if that occurs. I know that is not good enough for many but that is reality.

Mike, is Hughes eligible to play this year? I was impressed by him last night, and think he will give us some solid minutes at the 2 spot.
JD also looks like he has stepped his game up from last year. I hope he can shoot it like he did last night.
