That simply isn't true, we just haven't in recent years. Joe Robbins was an example of a player with limited tools who we developed and was a hell of a player. I could name many others, but frankly I'm terrible at remembering names and don't feel like doing the research.
Another "shock" to the mid major world ? Highly doubt it. Here we are in mid-July, sucked A%S in a conference tournament that we hosted, and can't announce a hire just shy of a month from when players are to report. That's "special". The pace in which Robe operates is like watching paint dry. Astonishing.
I believe it was the first week of August in 2014 when Freeman and Talbot were announced as new hires. I'm not freaking out. If we get to Fall practice and nothing is announced, my ears will perk up. I don't think there will be an issue though.
But don't let me stop people from melting down and trashing Robe. Carry on.
Robe is a very good coach, and no doubt he like all men has feet of clay. His overall record is just under 2/3 wins which is actually very good, but not great. He makes mistakes, and sometimes he actually sticks with bad decisions too long.
I don't know if Talbot was a bad decision, I simply know we have not been much of an offensive team since the departure of Deggs, and were also struggling before Deggs. If you're going to move or demote Talbot it's okay to announce it. Then everyone knows a position is open.
For me, an overpaying season ticket owner I'll accept whatever he does, but does not mean I gotta be happy with every decision that often proves wrong, and often not. Clearly Robe makes a lot more high decisions than wrong ones, and frankly nobody knows on any given day which will be which. If Deggs had not addressed his abuse of alcohol that would have been a bad risking move.
I would argue the following guys (outside of Joe Robbins) were developed and improved on campus: Ishmael Edwards, Shug, Kyle Clement, Kennon Fontenot, Logan Stoelke, Alex Pinero, Brenn Conrad, Blake Trahan to some extent, Brian Mills, Nick Thurman, Evan Guillory, Wyatt Marks. I am sure there are others.
I would agree that we haven't developed offensive talent to the extent we should. But we do develop players.
I agree with Rougarou's post here, he hits it on the nail.
