Mike , if you’re consistently a one bid league, you’re among the worst. At least by NCAA standards. We weren’t the only conference with outstanding regular season wins who couldn’t get a sniff at an at large. So let’s not quibble about being in the worst league. We’re consistent a one bid league making us not relevant.

There are not a lot of multi-bid leagues. There were a total of 10 multi-bid leagues this year with only 2 of them being outside of what would be considered major conferences in basketball. The horizon league and Mountain West were the only two leagues with multiple teams in the tournament who wouldn't really be considered a major basketball conference. That hardly suggests that we are amongst the worst.

What will you do if we win the conference outright but fail to win the conference tournament again? Similar record against a similar schedule with similar success. Is your opinion going to be he needs to be fired?

While I, along with everyone else wants and expects to qualify for the NCAA tournament, at least on a consistent basis,I am still somewhat surprised at how much some people disqualify winning the regular season conference title.

It’s pretty unbelievable. So another 25 win season and a SBC championship is grounds for termination if we lose the conference tournament. Who the hell would even want the job? News flash Cajun Fans, we are not a destination program. We are like a hundred other programs that are fighting for relevancy. From a distance it sure looks like UL is on a upward trajectory. We are bringing in talented players who excel on the court and in the classroom. Why are people so hell bent on change when the downside is so much greater than the upside. We could quite easily get a worse coach that cost a lot more money who would have the exact same types of schedules.
Bottom line...UL is not in the business of firing successful coaches.

Yeah, programs run by fan bases are so successful. Look at what has happened to LSU since the fan base demanded change. They were so tired of winning 10 games every year and losing the big ones. See the parallel?

The fallout would be the same. Who would want a job where the previous coach won two SBC Championships but failed to get into the big dance? A national search would be difficult and only coaches desperate for a head coaching job would be interested. It is stupid we are even talking about this. Basketball is on solid ground at the moment and is one of the best programs we have at this University.

And how many of the fans here on Ragin Pagin (no doubt the most rabid and connected of the fan base) are calling for him to be fired? Are there any? 1? 2? Translated to the entire fan base? <1%? All I see is mostly a group of very well informed basketball fans saying we need more. That there is more to it than just a gaudy record against terrible competition coupled with almost NEVER winning the big game or a game against mid to top flite competition. And they are right. And asked in private I BET Marlin would agree.
