If we expect to lose a few players to the draft, would it not make sense to have a few more JUCO guys as they would be more physically mature and ready in 2018. Granted, the HS route is the best way to keep the program consistent on a long term view. We also have the spring signing period in which JUCO guys could be brought in.
---Can we get some names of some FB players that have played in the past or now?? Leonards, Trahan, ---forgetting without roster in front but I remember on our Am Legion team that finished 3rd in the country where about 6 of us played FB and went on to have college offers in baseball!!!
I think they like to bring in high school guys, see what they have in the fall and who can contribute then go get juco help to fill in where you need. At least that's how I look at it, bringing in juco help before you know where you need it would kind of be jumping the gun IMO.
Most of the freshman we have been bringing in the past few years are much closer to being ready to compete at the D1 level. I much prefer seeing a kid like that come in and playing or close to being ready to play than grabbing a juco kid coming here for a year. It takes most juco guys a year to adapt to D1 baseball
Unless a kid contributes as a freshman there's a one year difference regardless wether they're drafted as juniors or not. Now if a kid red shirts and is just below the draft for four years you've got something.
