Yes. LSU. The Honey Badger had to be caught 7 times before being booted. His first offense was him stepping forward after winning the urine lottery and admitting he wouldn't pass. LSU's only requirement for a first time offense is they have to visit the counselor and coach. They immediately treat it like an addiction that an athlete just needs counseling to resolve. I have it on direct knowledge that 25% of the LSU football team gets high. Great effort is done on their part to dodge the testing. I'm not condoning or excusing getting high... but many college programs talk tough about pot, but keep their options wide open. They don't suspend or release easily. If the NCAA steps in, and it gets publicized, it's a different story.

And have you seen how many kids across the country are busted for Marijuana within School athletic programs? BTW, where is it banned? I'm just curious because if it was a truly banned substance wouldn't all of these kids be not allowed to participate in their sport if busted.....Period?

None of us know what happened with Hedgeman and Marlin and whether the kid had become some sort of cancer to the team but if he was in good standing and was cited for a misdemeanor, that is not a reason to kick him to the curb.

That's the coach's discretion. Its a punishment. Its not an NCAA bylaw or a 50 game suspension. Its up to the coach. I have no problem with Lotief not necessarily punishing Hayden for that. Its an event that we've all done in our lives, especially in college , and while they made a mistake that's exactly what it is. If it happens again, its no longer a mistake, its a trend.

Suspending and releasing kids is a completely different story don't you think. A suspension is absolutely the right thing to do as a learning tool and punishment. A straight release is different, especially when it hinders that athlete's chances of going to another D-1 school.

Hedgeman was released due to an incident that happened on the Texas road trip back in early February. I don't know the details of what occurred then, just that was the time frame. I am fairly certain law enforcement was not involved then however. In these situations, our coaches have always helped place athletes at other schools. In this case, it would likely be a non D1 school so as he would not have to sit out one year. I don't know if the most recent incident will make that more difficult. It does not help that effort however.

And that's fine. But some on here want to say Marlin "recruited him" and blame it on him. Can't have it both ways

Marlins program has a player retention problem, Jay hedgemen getting a possession charge doesn't change that in anyway at all.

And this is my point Mike. To think that a misdemeanor arrest for Marijuana should automatically necessitate a release is not something I'm in favor of. Like I said, I don't know the details of everything that has gone on with him, I was just mentioning that in regards to previous posts.

You and CC are both right IMO. I don't particularly agree with that concept when a kid gets in trouble or didn't pan out that its automatically the coach's fault. Its one of those comments that typically tells me that they are looking to blame the coach, no matter what the case. However, in this case CC is right in regards to player retention. This is the biggest issue most of us who believe Marlin has overstayed his welcome and that his inability to recruit and more importantly, keep the recruits you do get.

I bet most forget the big juco center we lost before the season started. Stalcup I believe was his name.
