Most of the fund raising done by other sports involves facilities. The Dome upgrades are a joint effort by the city, the state, and the university. I am not sure what facility upgrades basketball could promote. Were additional funds available to basketball, I suggest they would go to making travel more convenient and not as time consuming. That might be a tougher sell as you can't put a guy's name on a plane flight. Still, I don't argue that the staff should hit the road to solicit more funds. I will tell you that the main basketball support group (Rebounders Club) has more respect for Coach Marlin than anyone since Bobby Paschal. They do support the program to the tune of about 50 grand per year. That is not nearly enough to get one charter flight however. Also, basketball is something people pay attention to mostly during the season and it is the only sport that crosses semesters. During the season is not the time to hit the road looking for money as the demands on the staff is much more than most realize. Perhaps going along with Hud during the late spring and early summer would be advisable. If there is a strong finish to this season, it may pay benefits. Now, an eight game winning streak is nothing to sneeze at. That is true regardless of who you play as a bad shooting night which has nothing to do with effort can get anyone at any time. I wonder how many winning streaks in the country right now exceed ours. Anyone know? I bet it is not many.
