Why did he have to play? He was suspended for off the field issues, like jalen was. They may have never redshirted him hoping he would earn his way back on the field but never did. Considering the investigation going on, I'm sure they are on top of this... Particularly with Simeons clearinghouse issues.
if he was suspended for off the field issues (i.e. violation of team rules) and not for NCAA rules violation, if he doesnt play that is a red shirt, if he hasnt already redshirted. you can claim a redshirt after the fact if the kid doesnt play. you can dress out a guy all 12 or 13 games and if he doesnt see the field and hasnt redshirted already he can claim a redshirt even if there was an intention to play him in every game and he didnt get in. you dont have to declare a redshirt before a season starts or anything.
For whatever reason, the 2014 season must have been counted as a normal season, not a redshirt, even though Simeon didn't play. There may have been some type of agreement made with the NCAA with regard to the recruiting violations. Maybe they will apply for hardship and get him another year? In any case, its easy to see why there are questions because in most cases, if a kid doesn't play, that counts as a redshirt season....and that would mean he could play this year and still be eligible for the 2016 & 2017 seasons. Maybe Mr. Johnson or Mr. Buckley can get this cleared up for us?
The NCAA said that Kansas officials provided new information last week, days after the letter from Zenger to NCAA vice president Oliver Luck surfaced. Included was an independent review of Diallo’s coursework that helped the NCAA Eligibility Center render its decision.
