No he doesn't have to say that. That statement is used to justify his "comfortable" comments and leaves the impression that there is no reason nor desire to improve our conference affiliation. I agree he doesn't have to say the Belt sucks to media or the general public. But he won't even state it privately to supporters. And he sure doesn't have to keep publicly praising the conference as the end all and be all of our goals.
Well, my glasses must still be smeared. It's not so clear to me. Does Hud hiring a 2nd agent mean he did the black balling and wants to distance himself from Hale or that Hale was blackballed by the AD et al. and Hud figured he needed to get a 2nd agent to conduct business with UL since his first agent also represented Hale and he did not want to have conflict? Or does it mean something else all together?
Please don't answer any of these questions on this board. I'm just trying to make a point that what you can so clearly see from all these posts does not necessarily mean it is that clear to everyone else.
See, your post is not as clear as you might think. And I don't know all the "code words" the in-group on this board uses.
I agree with some of your premise, although to say he is not quailed for a fundraising position while currently advising Florida State and UCF on fundraising, and just signing an agreement with a firm that is currently handling $400 million dollar campaign at Arizona State is ridiculous. I do agree he is way above the pay grade of the person running the athletic department today and is considered a threat long term to his position at this university.
It should be clear to all now this has nothing to do with his resume, but personalities.
1) We have a athletic director that has stated and continues to state that we can do everything we need to do within the SBC to help ourselves in conference realignment. And contends that we are the best kept secret in NCAA sports.
*Steve stated last night that to many of the movers and shakers around college football, say you are judged by the company you keep. He also stated that if your program is the best kept secret in college sports, then your brand is not is good is you think.
2) Our athletic director and conference commissioner have both stated that if conference programs schedule well and run the table going 12-0, there would be a good chance that team will get an invitation to the Access Bowl or NCAA Championship Playoffs.
*Steve Hale stated last night that Benson's comments are proof that he is not living in reality. He stated a SBC team has no chance to be in the Access Bowl and a number of publications including Athlon and USA Today has stated the same thing.
*Our AD and RCAF have stated publicly that they are look to raise $X amount of dollars to fundraise. But they have yet to divulge what that number is right now.
*Steve Hale stated that starting a successful fundraising campaign doesn't begin with just focusing on a specific number, but understanding that assets you have beginning with championship caliber coaches. He said Louisiana Tech gets it because they have used guys like Karl Malone, Willie Roaf and Terry Bradshaw to help raise awareness of their athletic program and their brand nationally.
There is no doubt in my mind now that the new RCAF Fundraiser will be hired to work under Scott Farmer and not along side of him. And as stated by the original job description posted, report to Mr. Blohm and the RCAF Executive Committee. Once he or she is hired, they will also hire an assistant for the RCAF Fundraiser and all fundraising will fall under a separate department.
I have no doubt that the new fundraiser will be highly qualified for the position. But hiring a fundraiser simply address completing the facility plans. It does not address other important factors like marketing or branding nationally, putting together a long term strategic plan for conference realignment, contracting future schedules through contacts (home games) with other top programs besides Boise State, dealing with future television negotiations specifically with the move to pay for streaming and pay per view in the near future. Those are just a few aspects that will not be handled by the new fundraiser, but by the person that is currently handling those responsibilities today.
