1 down is competing in a game.

This is crazy. There are two ways to calculate this thing. And, you come up with two different answers......

    1. You play 12 games. A player plays in four games. That's 33%.

    2. You play 12 games. You multiply by 30% and that's the number of games you can play in. In this case, it's 3.6. The NCAA says round up.

    That's four games.

I'm doing an article right now on this whole thing. I'll link it when I'm done.

This can all be remedied by making it a % of how many plays an athlete played that year. Takes away A LOT of the guessing game. Set it at 33%, because if you played anymore than a 1/3 of your teams plays for the year, then you don't get the appeal.

Currently this is a legacy rule, with today's database technology your idea is the best and easily implemented.

I know the NFL tracks snaps per player. I don't think the NCAA does and that would be very difficult with the number of teams, packages and lopsided games every week in college football. I think the rule is pretty clear. You play one snap, it counts as a game played. 30% of the season rounded up to the next whole game. Football = 3.6 rounded up to 4 games.

I don't think you could count snaps, but you could do quarters.

What happens when a player gets hurt in the first play of the game but then returns in the 4th qtr? Honest question. Not trying to be a smartass.

From looking at our stats, they just track participation in the game, not each play. They do track who makes the plays on each play obviously (tackles, catches, etc). They may need to add a couple of additional sports info guys to track the players on each player.
