I don't know the answer to this question, but I'd love to know the last time any FBS school traveled to an FCS school.
It just doesn't happen anymore.
The last one I remember was Idaho going to Idaho State...and that's when Idaho moved up to FBS and that game was already contracted.
A few recent examples:
Army is playing at Yale this year.
Ball State is playing at Indiana State this year.
Idaho played at Montana in 2003.
In 1984, the No. 8 Boston College Eagles traveled to in-state rival Holy Cross (the only time a ranked school has that I could find)
Yes sorry Boston College. Not to mention SMU. They won the SWC that year.
Not sure if it correlates, but this is the list of I-A teams who did not have a conference in 1984:
#5 Boston College
#11 South Carolina
Army Rutgers
#17 Florida State
Virginia Tech
West Virginia
#18 Miami (FL)
Notre Dame
Southwestern Louisiana
Penn State
Syracuse Temple
Memphis
Navy
Southern Miss
Pittsburgh
Tulane
Cincinnati
East Carolina
Louisville
