I hope I made my point...lol.
I use to have connections to LC for a few decades. Watching both universities and communities over that time, one has grown while the other has moaned. "Knowing your place", playing name police and declining population is a bad combination. Could not happen to a finer bunch.
Taking notes ULMost?

Actually, JohnStOnge, I'm pretty heavily embedded in the BR and NO area, and UL is far from being taken as a joke, over the name or anything else. What I find is that the other-than-LSU school alum are very intimidated at the reality that UL, as a university, is finally pulling well ahead of everyone other-than-LSU. LSU is becoming aware of it as well. Now, back when our football program wasn't much of a focus (a huge mistake - due to this state's average Joe having a massive propensity to equate football prowess to university prowess) our attempt to push our preferred nickname and athletic branding name (not something grabbed out of thin air - but a rebel position taken after the pathetic actions of the state in 1984) has been ridiculed.
What you and others are going to become more upset about is, that we, finally in sports to go along with academics, are going to rightfully grow into our preferred name, whether you agree and acknowledge it or not. We do not care whether you continue to get silly about our name. Our prowess, in all regards, will speak for itself.
Now, as far as your relatively disconnected rambling regarding "university attended" versus "education received" versus "comparative competence in the working world"... only a stooge doesn't know that we all overlap each other... and you can find exceptions to every rule. Fundamentally, you can go to almost any university, study the material in your chosen profession, and you will become as educated as you decide to be coupled with your natural aptitude for knowledge absorption and retention.
Geaux Cajuns! Geaux UL! Screw McNeese!
The straw concept you are grasping onto was a pseudo (imposed) perception aka not natural aka fake.
UL has been 'the other' State Institution since 1939.
The entire rest of the state voted UL a State wide entity by enrolling at UL without benefit of a top-3 metro area as a draw.
jmo based on data
Let's see all the schools who think they are something they not. LSU A&M BR = LSU, Nevada @ Reno = UN, Texas at Austin = UT, Tennessee at Knoxville = UT, North Carolina at chapel hill = UNC, cal at Berkeley = cal. All these schools don't know who they are, or does it only apply to Louisiana @ Lafayette = UL. We did not invent this broke back but we will see it through.
Guys, I'm sure Johnstonge has spent just as much or more time enlightening the folks at Tech about thinking they are something they are not (Flagship of North Louisiana). And he could make a virtual career of getting ULMost to see the light as to their true nature. Of course, I'm sure he has already shared his theory on academic prowess / equality with the good old boys at Tigerdroppings.
I have to chuckle at your first statement. It isn't that McNeese fans think McNeese is superior to UL "per se". If you think the "UL community" is the butt of jokes, how about you venture out into any one of these "other communities" with anything whatsoever of a "proud attitude" regarding McNeese. The point you're making about the "UL community" isn't an indictment of UL. It's an indictment of these "other communities". This state gave every zip code a 4 year university for the express intent (but they'll tell you it was all about bringing the college to the poor kid instead of helping the poor kid get to a college) of making a political pie sharing contest, by rule, that only fed the one "big school". It isn't UL's fault that Lafayette is a more vibrant community than most of these other communities. And yes, UL has gained as a result. For others to believe that "the name" is so undeserving is a joke on them. They (and you) are petty puppets of the state. Making our name adventure the business of "your community" is the sickness. And as much as we don't want you to be in this obsessive state over what we call ourselves, we're not altering our path to suit your sickness.
Now... wouldn't you agree that your past is something you glance at, but don't turn your body around and walk backwards to view? And that your present and future are vastly more important (even that really smart guy from Tech would probably tell you that)? We (UL) are just now... do you understand that... just now... unshackled from our former president, in such a way, that we're presently in a much more substantial upward trajectory. And as fans, and knowing we've got you guys on our schedule, are just interested in seeing how that presently translates on the football field. You can tell us we're not superior. Heck, you can tell us that McNeese is. It matters not. Just bring your family and friends to Lafayette and let's play some football. McNeese and UL.
I will agree with Johnstonge on one point, what the rest of the schools in Louisiana, and particularly mcneese, think about UL doesn't matter to me.
Btw, if Lafayette is the butt of jokes why are they so obsessed with us? Why did the American Press columnist write an entire column detailing his lifelong _____-envy of Lafayette because he had to travel here from Lake Cuck to experience good dining, good shopping and good entertainment. If that is the case then I guess he was admitting that Lake Charles is worse than a joke.
We got radio in Lake Charles, we got TV sports coverage in LC, we got gear in the Academy over there. They can deny all they want.
denial is a mutha.
