2014 Branding Fiasco: UL-Lafayette or UL-L (SBC Reference Guide)

Ah.....you may want to revise that last line. I don't think you have anyone's support....And to rely on anyone reading a footnote is just stupid.

In summary, we had everything going for us: Fox, NBC and CBS were honoring our wishes to be branded UL. The only holdout was ESPN, which basically said they would call us what the Sun Belt called us. Then the Sun Belt asked us what to be branded with 2-4 letters. Then we come up with UL-L? It was set up on the tee for us and the administration swung and missed. Everyone together now say UL-L and then ULL. Sounds the same doesn't it? Now the networks that were with us saw the UL-L memo and ran with it. Decades of work down the drain with a few words.

This guy gets it!! If Louisiana is what we're striving for then why on earth did we go and complicate it with some new stupid abbreviation? It didn't matter, yet now this administration has made it matter. Way too much focus on all the things that don't matter and not enough on the long list of things that matter and probably won't ever happen.

It's time to get out of the Sun-Belt..

To where Conference USA? LaTech will fight us on the name. AAC? Tulane will fight us on the name.

I agree we need out of this thrash pile conference, but that will not help with this issue. We (the university) either makes a stand or not....regardless of the conference affiliation. We have seen what the stand is. If we cannot defeat ULM in Sun Belt politics.....we will never win this battle, at least these leaders never will.

I have no issue with fighting on! I will not stop saying UL or Louisiana, and will never use "at Lafayette", "-Lafayette", "-L". I will also not buy merchandise with this on it. I only hope the Louisiana stays on athletic complexes because if changed I will seriously reconsider donations and season tickets purchases. I don't really want to go that far though.

The University asked that the abbreviation for statistical use be explained in a footnote and the conference office declined our request.

----------Well he is right about something and that is how suddenly things changed---we went into the Monroe game and we were all pumped up with our name of Louisiana and UL----We got there and were just shocked to hear and see what followed with the first down and not see Louisiana on the scoreboard---Something radically happened -----Somebody had to get to T-Joe and threatened him ---that is all I can see---Now where it came from I don't know but the UL Board or the Regents or the Governor----but obviously something came down that must have scared the hell out of T-Joe----and now this---As an alumn, backer, and whatever else----I want to know what the hell happened!!!

Must agree with this. We need to remember that is Louisiana politics at work. Too much pushing from Admin could see us get our funding for our master plan tied up in committees delaying our progress even further. I think there is more at stake than just our name here.
