If "Louisiana Ragin Cajuns" it trademarked, how is that not out name when referring to athletics?
Universite' des Acadiens
![]()
too late
So Louisiana..but no UL? UL-Lafayette for scores but UL-L for stats...but no footnotes...got it...
The university communication department is wrong. The nickname didnt need to change. The first reference and abbreviation did.
So now its going to say this???
Name: University of Louisiana at Laf..
Nickname: Louisiana Ragin Cajuns
First Reference: UL-Lafayette
Abbreviation: UL-L
This doesn't make any sense.
This is what we should have done back in 2000 instead of going the University of Louisiana at Lafayette route. Louisiana University is no threat to being a flagship of the University of Louisiana System. LU would be our acronym and the networks would have no problem with that. No one would have opposed that name. We would be like Ohio State and Ohio. Or, we could have stayed USL and become the University of South Louisiana. Or, we could have become Acadiana University. Any of the 3 options would have given us a better identity that UL-L. Instead, Dr. A took the hard route hoping to achieve something he had to know we never could be in this state. 1984 to 2014 and look where we are today.
Look, WE will all still call ourselves Louisiana and UL. But, the rest of the world outside of Lafayette will not. And, the few that did no longer will. We are now stuck with UL-L and UL Lafayette. We either live with it or change it to something we can live with. My guess is our President will be content to be UL Lafayette and know our place and the Aaron Martin press release is the last we will hear from the university. I hope none of us let that happen.
