i dont think we should have a blanket idea like that. some would say when we hired Hud, that hiring another position coach was a mistake. If he is the right hire, i dont care where he comes from.

If HUD was to leave, I would like to hire someone like Auburn Off Cordinator Lashlee. I know he doesn't have HC experience but he reminds me of Texas tech's Kingsbury.

The question you have to ask about Lashlee is how involved is he in the offense? Malzhan is the main play caller for Auburn.

Both Lashlee and Morris are the hot names out there right now. Both would be very hard to convince to come coach a SBC program. They have pulled their names from decent HC jobs already, they are waiting for a shot like Kingsbury...a BCS program.

Like Cajun T mentioned Roberts has a track record similar to Hud. The systems we run are very similar to what Roberts has done how whole career so the talent is in place to take off from the beginning.

If you go after a coordinator who know how he will adjust to being a HC. When you hire someone with the HC experience your not learning on the job.

For the record I'm not against going after an asst from an FBS program. This next hire, whenever it happens, will be the biggest in Cajuns history so you have to make sure you get the right guy.

Malzahn and freeze also both had head coaching experience. I would prefer the next hire (whenever that may be) to have head coaching experience at some level.

With HUD you get the whole package---leader, Xs&Os, speaker, motivation, organization, recruiter, thinking out of the box, and just loves the spotlight and is comfortable with it ---he is the quintessential Head College football coach that has skills to be great in so many fields that call for his capabilities and talents!!! GAWD he is not but for filling a job description of head coach at a major university, he's the guy!!! I would ride him for all he is worth and I think that could be the Florida State-ing of UL-----He could be the Bowden to bring the Cajuns to a new level----His salary needs to be doubled and given the AD job if there are any problems in the president's wanting to retain the present athletic administration!!!------I remember when Jack Doland took McNeese up many many notches when he became the HC, AD, and then president of that dump---say what you want he had them growing and the whole place excited----Now I am going to tell you how I really feel!!!! lol

Two disagreements with your post are bolded.

I'm not sure where I would rank Hud from an X's and O's standpoint.

I also do not think he would make a good AD while he was the football coach.

Great points by everyone...to be a little more specific I would like to see a assist head coach or a really good D coordinator...someone with name recognition. But if a FCS coach is the right guy so be it. NDSU HC comes to mind for the type of FCS HC. Hopefully we will be able to get the salary up to 1.2-5mil by the time all these things will have to be dealt with. I would think that you could find a really quality coach for that kind of cash.
