Thread: Cowboys down Cajuns, 77-72

Points well taken. Some of his problems babies were Lee's some were his by way of a coach he chose. That is why I am worried about the defections. If this is stemmed or greatly reduced we shall be happy with the result. Oh, yea, I don't like the Tim Floyd lite style of play, but if it works for him it works for me.

About the contract? That contract extension is overdue, he earned it during his first year by winning the Sun Belt West. It was part of his original contract that he would get an extension and raise if he did that. I have been told by many on this board it was put on hold to get Hud. The athletic director would be in breech of contract without an extension. Technically he could have walked out the door at any point last season.

I agree with this statement. We shouldn't reward Coach Marlin for substandard performance.

Just for ____s and giggles, lets break down Marlin's first 3 seasons here.

1st season: He had a team that was designed to lose. There were all kinds of injuries, one of our star plalyers were basically playing on one leg, and our best post player was a 6'5 freshman. This team was just not in a position to win. Especially when they were a team who was used to playing in Robert Lee's offense (which is run down the court and throw up a 3). They were so bad they lost to Texas State. Then what happens? Marlin, somehow, someway, gets them on the nations 2nd longest winning streak. They go from a 3-14 team to a 14-15 team. That is simply an amazing feat.

2nd season: A team full of promise but also full of a lot of new faces because of the big senior class last year. This team was as dysfunctional as can be. Players were undermining the coach and they just didn't respect him. We had some talent, but we were not a team. Despite all of this, we still had a winning record in the regular season and went to some kind of post season tournament for the first time in a while. After the season, Marlin fires one of his assistants and he takes a handful of his players with him. If I remember correctly, 3 guys transferred, and 4 more exhausted their eligibility. That's 7 players gone. That's more than half the team. And everyone remaining were a bunch of freshman and sophomores and one junior.

This season: Marlin brings in a bunch of new faces to replace the 7 leaving. There is talent, but they are very young. Marlin seems to really like this group and doesn't seem to have a problem with any of the players like the previous year. They have one senior on the team and he's not even a starter. This team has 6 freshmen and 4 sophomores. They are very very very young. If you've watched them this year, you see the potential at times, and at others you see a young team who has absolutely no idea what it's doing. More than often you see the latter.

I say give Marlin a few years with this group. If he keeps this group together, I have a feeling everyone wanting to get rid of Marlin will be eating their words. He's had a brand new group every year. If he can change that, watch out.

Just taking advantage of the system too lay on my leg.

So my question to him was; "Who hired all these slease-balls"? Basically, he shut up after that. So my question to the super-pro Marlin supporters is the same; "Who recruited & lost all these under performing players"? I said yesterday that as of two plus years into the Marlin era he has not earned a new contact much less a raise - I stand by my statement. Why pay more for just showing up? Where's the beef???? Hud showed us all how to blend the old with the new and make it work quick. Marlin is coaching what should be the premier sports program at the university. The program that should be the easiest to turn around. As of today he has not done that and my views will not be swayed by what could or may be one day. Simply put, he has not made sufficient progress to this point for the time he has been here or considering the program he is coaching. I just hope the new contract says if you do something in the next three years you get these bonuses and pay increases but if not the buy out is less not more.

    Yes.

Only 1 coach in the Belt has more conference wins since he was hired.

That just means SBC basketball is terrible and any decent coach/team has moved on to greener pastures.

I support Marlin, but losing to Mickeyneese is unacceptable. This team needs to find some consistency.

The ones you call decent didn't have a better conference record over the same span.

What decent coach has moved on?

Marlin needs to win more games, especially out of conference. But, I think anyone who watches this team would be excited about the future.

However, this program needs to start turning around, I personally still feel Marlin is the guy to do it.

Reverse that, because Long is actually a transfer, while Wronkowski is a true freshman.
