Who gives the band the OK to play and when? Does the band director just decide I will now toot?? Or does someone else radio in a toot?? Trying to combine both threads?? I hear that tooting is signaled to the band. If so, the band may not have the final say on when they paly.

When the day comes that I'm too proud to hover over the urinal and drop a deuce in front of all of the rest of you... then I'm going to just wear a diaper to the game. I'll at least make it a celebratory event and when the Cajuns score... I'll high five everyone around me... and drop a load at the same time. There's always ways around these things. You just have to put pride on the shelf... for a short grunt or two.

Oh... and screw the piped in noise. I've got to stop bopping around when that junk comes on. I think the alcohol makes me think it's music for a second or two. Anyhow... the band needs to get with it. They need to start learning quick riffs that plug into open spots. I think they've dramatically cleaned up their play... but they need to become an integral part of the football gameday experience... besides just halftime.

I'm considering volunteering to help "boot camp" the Cajun brass. I'll probably have to overcome a lot of mothering protection by the band director... but horn players at UL need to be shown what it's like to have balls. I'm pretty sure that someone within their band leadership is giving them some esoteric lesson on proper intonation... but that shat don't fly in the stands on Saturday night. If they need me to show them, I will. I'll also make sure no one with too much femininity interferes. Drums and brass need to try to destroy themselves on Saturday night in the stands.

I remember a Southern Miss game in the early 90's where our drumline was having a little in-game competition with the USM drumline. It was a close contest until our guys broke out a rendidtion of the guitar solo from Metallica's "One".

Needless to say, the USM guys were left speechless by that one.

Kind of a different mindset, huh J1M?

One of the reasons my wife will sit and watch college games on TV with me at home is the BIG TIME COLLEGE ATMOSPHERE, with the bands blaring and so forth. So what's with the deafening recorded music between plays at Cajun Field? Who came up with this idea? A topic for discussion that came up with some of us old school old guys in the press box last night. Bottom line: Are we just being old fogies? Oh, and at this time, I'm watching Oklahoma St. and Tulsa LIVE at 1:16 a.m., Sunday, 9/18...a game delayed because of weather. Is this insane or not...Not that I'm watching, but that the game is still being played?
I agree with the piped in music part! It was kind of funny watching Surgent dancing to it though......They could play anything and he would start doing a little jig. It's kind of cool that he is that comfortable with himself to dance in front of 25K. My 6 year old son is a tiger scout and we got some free tickets to the game. All in all good experience. We got to go on the field before the game and Hud came around to all of the boy scouts telling them thanks for coming.

The music though.....At one point they played some song named Bumblebee. My son was like "DAD, IS THAT BUMBLEBEE FROM TRANSFORMERS?". I honestly didn't know, I can't keep up with this trendy hip hop and don't care too.

Oh yeah, we sat right behind the band and I did think that was pretty cool. The Tuba's were blaring!

Gorilla fingers are a private experience only to be had from the house.

Just getting online after Saturday Night...I think this thread is largely accurate. The ONLY problem I had was the LOUD rap music before the game... I'm normally one who walks in right at kick-off but this time wanted to come in early as suggested by many... Unless they do something with that crap I will revert to coming in late..

Beyond that I am extremely excited about the state of UL football... Granted Hud has a LOT of work to do for us to get where we want to be but for the first in YEARS I believe it will get done... The Freshmen I was able to watch seemed to play well. He has helped create a big time atmosphere... It was fun....

I believe we got a glimpse of the future Saturday night and I for one think it is a bright future

They need to have speakers at both ends of the stadium and not just on the new scoreboard end.
I was sitting at the 10 yard line on the new scoreboard end and it was too loud.

Put speakers on both ends of the field and lower the volume to half to make it sound more even.

Also they need to put mic's in the band section so the band will play through the speakers. The band is not loud enough

This would not work. Sound takes time to travel through the air, so everyone not sitting at exactly the 50 yard line would hear the same sound from the two sides of the stadium hitting their ears at different times. This makes the sound less intelligible and also can cancel out certain frequencies, causing voices to sound like the speaker is talking into a pipe.

Micing a band in a football stadium is not possible for the same reasons, not to mention it would completely throw off the band members. And get us in trouble with the NCAA.

When Hud gets the Cajuns winning on a consistant basis, the game atmosphere will take care of itself. The fact that many of us are complaining about what we percieve to be be problems with little things that take place before kickoff, between plays or about the band clearly illustrates what happens to a fan base after so many years of losing. The way I see it, the Cajuns won the game, we had the 8th largest crowd in Cajun Field history and tailgating was terrific. I would be happy for this same type of experience at every game!
