The players and students really seemed to enjoy the PA music. I enjoyed watching their enjoyment.
The band seems to spend the majority of ther time resources on the halftime show which I thought was solid. Hopefully they can do a better job of figuring out who does what when. Generally speaking I think it all sounds better when UL is winning
One way to make the band louder is to scrap the rifles and reduce the number of flag twirlers. Those slots could then be used for brass players. LSU did this in the 80's and was able to get a louder sound. The problem is finding more brass players who are good enough to play in a college band.
My question remains. Is the band bad or do they just tone it down during games and really ramp it up during halftime? I've never been able to answer this question but they are easily loud enough at halftime when performing but much more muted during the game. I'm no band expert but it just seems that there is a clear distinction. If they could perform during the game like they do at halftime, I think a lot of the fans issues would be quieted.
Nothing wrong with the piped in music. Band has been playing the same 4 songs for 20+ years (however long, I know Im exaggerating). They learned a new song last year, "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga. They need to go back to playing 4 songs.
Look I am not hating on the band. Those band members are some of the best musicians in the area. They are not made for playing in a stadium. If you want to see a good show by our band, attend an Angelle Hall concert not a UL Football game.
In regards to the band, I think what people are looking for is not new songs to play during the game.
We have GREAT gameday songs, Respect, Hey Baby, Zydeco Boogaloo, etc. They are fine.
What people want are the little snippets that bands play between plays, after first downs, turnovers, etc. as long as they don't play the ESPN music anymore.
THAT is big time atmosphere.
And you can't have that big time atmosphere if your blaring the latest club music between plays.
Just a quick thought ---Why can't the band have some pick up mikes to make their sound louder (A LOT LOUDER) ???? Boy another year and more garbage --oh yea still the wrong fight song melody what a drag!!!!
As someone else stated, you cannot mic the band. The sound will come out of the speakers after the music has been played and the result will be a disaster. Also everyone who is griping because the band is more powerful at half time need to think about it. They are closer to the crowd because they are on the field. They also do not have as much background buzz at halftime.
the band is not a football band, if you want them at a wine tasting that would be great. football games not so much.
