By the way, Stars Do Matter! Everyone is quick to talk about Fenroy or Green as how the star system is flawed, but not everyone gets rated. I guarantee you that a team that has a roster full of 3 and 4 star players will defeat a team that is all 2 star and 1 star players 8 out of 10 times. It is proven time and time again when low level AQ schools pound mid majors.

If UL can string together 4 or 5 years of recruiting classes with around 10 three star athletes you can bet your last dollar that we will be at the top of the Sunbelt. _

I'd say on average this is correct. However, I'd invite you to check out TCU and Nevada's previous recruiting classes and see the correlation between the 3 and 4 star athletes and their past successes. It doesn't always correlate the way we think it would.

Like I said earlier in this post, its all subjective and depends on who is pushing for the kid. Heck, our hometown newspaper did a story on Larry and Shaun commiting to you guys and Shaun shrunk 2 inches. All i know is thats the tallest 6ft 2 kid I have ever seen. _

I saw that. Pretty funny and he gained about 15 pounds! Don't fatten the kid up too much! LOL

We also signed like 29 or more players that year which gives us more total points which is the way Rivals does there rankings. This is one reason the SEC is so highly rated each year is because they way over sign kids often signing kids in the upper 20's or 30 something players. The overall stars are added up. Troy does the same thing.

The year we signed 29 or more was Bustle's 2nd year. His first year he only signed like 11 or so recruits because he came in so late on recruiting and quite frankly no one really wanted to come to UL at the time. The next year since he only signed only 11 he was still allowed to sign JuCo kids in the early signing period. Teams are allowed to sign up to 25 kids a year and it does not all have to come in the spring so some can come in the next fall's early signing period and count back to last spring's signing class. Anyway Bustle signed like multiple JuCo players with some coming in the early signing period, guys like C.C Brown, Atwain Spann, Travis Bass, Darryl Blappert, Travis Cones, Ed Fane, Ken Haynes, Kemmie Lewis, Joseph Scott, and Ricky Thomas. Some of these guys came in the early signing period.

I stand by my statement. I used to follow recruiting pretty closely...way more one's moved to two's than three's to two's.

    2003 Scout Recruiting Rankings vs Win/Loss % for 2007

This is the top 50 teams based on win/loss ratio in 2007. The Scout ranking for their recruiting classes 4 years prior in 2003 is in the middle column on left side. As I have said before, star ratings are for top 25 programs with the largest fan base.

Why is this? Because they keep the goldfish fed, it's a business. Resources for evaluating talent in great detail are applied to the recruits that have early interest from large fanbase teams with lots of subscriptions. Nothing evil about it, it's just good business to do so...

My proof, has there ever in the history of STAR rating been a 5 star player that did not start his junior season? Yet there are many that had much better senior seasons than the 4 and 5 star guys, that played behind seniors at their HS during their junior year. The vast majority of top 25 teams have 75% of their commitments prior to a single down being played in their senior HS season.

A kid with high STAR rating means he can play no doubt and that he has the potential, but it also means he started earlier in his HS career because there were not as many talented players ahead of him. Most of the time it also means that he has friends, relatives, or a coach with connections for early recognition. A kid with a lower STAR rating is a shot in the dark because nobody has really spent the time, people, and money to figure out whether he can really play or not.

Pretty much if a D1 school signs you, you will get a 2nd star. Not always but very often.

A player can go from zero to two with his own pen.
