Ladarius was rated a two-star recruit by Rivals.com - and was listed in his profile at 6-3, 185 instead of 6-5, 220.

Nice. A couple of typos and you are a lanky wr with avg speed instead of a beast at te that can't be covered.

A good number of our recruits the past few years were not rated or were one star. They were then two star as soon as we signed them. Point is we have been given more additions than subtractions over the past 4-5 years.

There are always exceptions in any "system". Ladarius is one of those exceptions. I don't think anyone ever claims that rating systems are perfect. But, it is out there and people do view the star ratings as a guide to what kind of talent the program is bringing in. We all agree, there are many guys that don't get rated, rated poorly, or lack visibility, and they are the ones rated NR or 2 stars and some of these guys turn out to be great players. Just like there are many 4 and 5 star rated players that never pan out. However, I believe that for the most part, if we start bringing in each year, a good group of 3 star guys and a couple of 4 star guys added to our class, it would not be a coincidence that we start winning many of our games. It all starts with talent and recruiting and I like the fact that many of Coach Huds assistants have involvement with that aspect. On one hand, you can't just rely on these ratings and say your team is going to be good because you ranked in the top 50 in recruiting, but you also can't ignore the fact that many of the bottom ranked teams in recruiting, are not very good teams, and it shows on the field.

I believe UL had a top 50 recruiting class in the early Bustle years. It was based primarily on the signing of Jordan Jackson who was a flop WR and Devin Williams who never played a down for the Cajuns at QB.

They don't downgrade every non BCS program, but UL sure doesn't ever get its players with high ratings. And, it shows in our records. I for one would love to see us get 3 & 4 star players and get in the 50 - 70 range and watch our winning success parallel our recruiting success. That would only spur additional success in recruiting and bragging rights vs. our competition. That would not be a bad thing.

That happens, many players never make an impact, but you have to keep trying to acquire the absolute best talent you can get.

Jordan Jackson should have never played WR. He was the 3A defensive MVP in the state, yet Bustle thought he would be a better WR than FS.

By the way, Stars Do Matter! Everyone is quick to talk about Fenroy or Green as how the star system is flawed, but not everyone gets rated. I guarantee you that a team that has a roster full of 3 and 4 star players will defeat a team that is all 2 star and 1 star players 8 out of 10 times. It is proven time and time again when low level AQ schools pound mid majors.

If UL can string together 4 or 5 years of recruiting classes with around 10 three star athletes you can bet your last dollar that we will be at the top of the Sunbelt.

Yes, and quite a few of the ones that were 2 stars upon signing day were previously rated higher as well.

I'd say on average this is correct. However, I'd invite you to check out TCU and Nevada's previous recruiting classes and see the correlation between the 3 and 4 star athletes and their past successes. It doesn't always correlate the way we think it would.

Like I said earlier in this post, its all subjective and depends on who is pushing for the kid. Heck, our hometown newspaper did a story on Larry and Shaun commiting to you guys and Shaun shrunk 2 inches. All i know is thats the tallest 6ft 2 kid I have ever seen. _

I saw that. Pretty funny and he gained about 15 pounds! Don't fatten the kid up too much! LOL
