Dave, did you expect them to say anything else?
Wow! I'm impressed with this!

Is it just me...or does it appear to the rest of you that we are attracting and signing more and more higher level recruits over the past 2 or 3 years?

Alot of it is that we are attracting alot of what I would consider tweeners, a kid like Hagans had a ton of upside coming out of HS, but not sure if he would be a DL or OL at the next level, STATE wanted him to switch to the OL and he wanted to play DL. He could play sparingly at State, or come here and have a chance to, one do what he wanted to do, play DL and also a chance to start for the next two years. Same with a kid like Spikes, for all of his potential, he was consisdered "smallish" as a D-1 RB, a few teams were unsure of whether his lack of size would make it at the next level. Plus he fit perfectly into the Texas Tech offense when Leach was the coach, but not as well when Leach was let go. He fits pretty good into our option read offense.
We got lucky, sort of with Cooper Gerami, he wanted to come back home. Hunter Ovens, is looking to play baseball, so we gave him a chance, i would love to see him play football as well, but he is considered by some to small to play D-1 LB.
Pryer, was considered a project out of HS, he had raw talent but it would take a couple of years to get him to the D-1 level, after playing JUCO, UL feels as though he is ready, State may not have felt the same way.
We need to continue to recruit this way, look at kids that for one reason or another the "bigger" schools are passing on and take advantage of the fact that the kid just wants to play football.
Ladarius Green was a huge example of this, he was a basketball player in HS, that most people did not think could play at the D-1 level in football, because he had only played a couple of years of it. Now at UL he is our star on the offensive side of the ball.
I love the thought process that Bustle and his staff are using, I just hope that we suceed in 2010, so that we can see many of these player excell in 2011 under Bustle's staff.
This is very true. I think, however, that a big reason we are starting to attract a better brand of athlete is in large part to our commitment to improving the existing facilities and giving the athletes more amenities to enhance their time here. You couple that with the ability to come in and be able to possibly start or at least play significant time early in your career, its tempting for highly recruited players to come to a school like UL. If we could put together a couple of nice years of solid play on the field and consequent bowl births to enhance our prestige, you could see a nice influx of gifted athletes as a result. Tulsa seems to come to mind as a prime example. They have a program that will attract some of the larger recruits who don't want to sit for years at a BCS program and can get great exposure and be put in a position to perform. I like the fact that the staff is much more aggressive in recruiting a lot of these players much earlier in the process than before. A lot of recruits develop a very strong tie to the schools who recruit them early and stay with them through the process. Now that we are doing this more and more and with higher touted players, we may be able to land some of these kids that would normally go to a larger program.
(I forgive you for the dance comment LOL) I agree with both you and Dave's post. Regardless of what the specific reasons are for having picked up some fine additions to our program... having done so will really improve our situation going forward. I guarantee you that we just picked up another recruit or two that we would not have gotten just by adding the story of these excellent transfers. Good athletes starting a move toward a program gets contagious.
The rest of us adding our financial and other support just keeps the positive trend going.
