May open up a spot for Danny Farquhar. He's been doing well in AA Ball (has 4 saves in his last 4 outings)! I hope he can continue to do well and get another promotion soon.

As for BJ Ryan....tough break. Supposedly he said he would do anything for the team. I believe he entered a game in the 3rd or 4th inning the other day. He didn't have much luck that day either. I hope he gets on with another team soon. (At least it will be South of the border!) It would be nice if he donated some of his 8 figure per year salary to the RCAF!!

Dang, tough break. What other former Cajuns are currently playing in MLB? I know Bako is playing for Philly.

UL Baseball B.J. Ryan is a Cub!

The Cubs have reportedly given the former Blue Jay a minor league contract. Hopefully he will tear it up in AAA and soon make his way back to the Big Leagues.

Of all teams...the cubs...ugh, sorry, but I cannot support him. I despise the cubs with every fiber of my being.

I hope BJ plays well and gets traded

I can support him, just not him as a cub. Why bj, why?

Why is it that you hate the Cubbies so?

One of my wishes is that I can visit their venerable ball park before I become to senile to appreciate the experience. Some years back I traveled out to the East Coast and spent some time in Boston. Yep, you guessed it, went to see a Bosox game. What an experience. Managed to get tickets through the USO, being that I am retired USAF.

Anyway, I was just wondering about your hate for the Cubs.

  9. UL Baseball Cubs sign B.J. Ryan to minor league contract

WASHINGTON - The Chicago Cubs signed former Toronto closer B.J. Ryan to a minor league deal Thursday, hoping to add another left-hander to their bullpen.

Released by the Blue Jays earlier this month, the 33-year-old Ryan will first report to the Cubs' spring training complex in Mesa, Ariz. If all goes well, he'll join Triple-A Iowa.

The Cubs have only one left-handed reliever, Sean Marshall. Cubs manager Lou Piniella employed a unique strategy to keep Marshall in the game last weekend, moving him to left field when a righty reliever came in, then bringing him back to pitch one batter later.

"When they feel he's ready, we'll bring him up," Piniella said before the Cubs played at Washington. "We don't really have much left-handed depth in this organization."

  10. Default BJ Ryan Begins Rehab Stint

It'll be interesting to see if the Cubs make any moves to help the beleaguered bullpen.

Speaking of left-handed relievers, B.J. Ryan made his Iowa debut tonight and pitched 1 inning at Omaha, giving up 1 walk in 1 inning. The former Blue Jays closer, whom the Cubs signed recently, threw 11 pitches, 5 for strikes. We'll see how many outings the Cubs give him before they determine he's ready. In the meantime, they'll continue seeing if the Pirates want to part with John Grabow or the Nationals want to trade Joe Beimel.
