Thread: Death of college Basketball ?

Default Death of college Basketball ?

With the FBI cleaning house on the corruption of college basketball I bet we will see a lot of this in the future.

Maybe the beginning of the end of international HS players going to US colleges. Maybe US high schoolers will start signing with the D League instead of going to college, but I doubt it.

Edit: I thought he was a Kiwi. Did not realize that he is from the US. Interesting development.

I hope so. It will restore the college game, IMO.

They need to adopt baseball rules pro or 3 years.. The college game would become so much better.

Didn't NCAA basketball have that at one time? Seems like a win-win for all parties, except agents and shoe companies.

If HS kids start signing professionally out of HS, if will dilute the eilte talent pool in NCAAB, but it will restore some order. Team basketball will return, crowds will undoubtedly return (they'll be able to follow teams for 3-4 years like we used to) and post season basketball would be about the competition again, not the showcase for Mr. 1 and done.

This option has been available for many players for some time. It doesn't get used often and I think the kids get more exposure playing in college here.

Not trying to hijack thread away from basketball, but did you guys see the baseball player (drafted by Atlanta) who signed with team in Japan for 6 years...rather than slumming it in the Minor leagues, and still being handcuffed once contract is complete?...that could also possibly change baseball

But these 5-star kids were getting fat checks going play at Duke / UK / Kansas that's going to be drying up with the FBI sniffing around.

Yeah Braves lowballed him because of supposed injury. Good for him. Gets to play for the best team in Japan and make good money now.

Yep...and not live out of a 1960 Airstream...big kicker is if he fulfills the 6 year contract and turns out to be a stud...can sign with any team he chooses to...

    Exactly.

The issue is that NCAA basketball has become a brothel for “1 and done” players and has caused the pandora box to open for shoe companies and other sports apparel companies to come in to make “under the table” deals. And even though these deals have always been around, they’ve skyrocketed tremendously over the past decade when the whole 1 and done rule came into effect. Plus, add in the way AAU has evolved with these companies; and you have the cluster we have today.

And to make matters worse, the NCAA doesn’t know how to detain this mess. But I say “oh well.” They helped create this turd mattress. They can now sleep in it.
