Because of the MLB fully guaranteed contracts I think BJ Ryan's might have been larger.

I think that the contract was more a result of the nead to open up some cap space with julius peppers getting the franchise tag. Jake was owed 11 million this year (the final of his contract), but with him renegotiating, it brought what hes owed this year (I'm not sure how much, but I'd guess around 8.5 million) which would free up about 2.5 million so they can sign their draft picks and such.
