Louisiana vs. LA Tech would be a good matchup with a lot of fan interest. They will be our biggest rival when they enter the SBC next year. Love them or hate them, they are now here to stay as long as we are in the SBC. I hope the SBC moves our game with Tech to the last game of the year and moves ULM to the early part of our schedule. Like the Texas v. A&M trophy for the state of Texas, we should have a trophy for the state of Louisiana between our schools. It will be a hate fest. Make the rivalry more meaningful. We can start with the Independence Bowl.

I still think our administration is a bunch of dumbasses for helping bail LA Tech out of the flailing CUSA.

Now that said, since we're stuck with them, I agree. You want a "rivalry week" game in the Sun Belt, Louisiana vs. Louisiana Tech is the way to go.

    https://1130thetiger.com/independenc...5-predictions/

    Predictor: ESPN (Mark Schlabach)
    Prediction: Louisiana vs. Western Kentucky
Our Take: Schlabach agrees with Bonagura that there will be at least 2 of the Big 12 teams in the Playoffs, so the Sun Belt will have to fill their spot. But Schlabach has a much better idea: having a Louisiana team in the game. His prediction is that the Sun Belt would send the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns to Shreveport. It would be their first time back since the 2022 matchup against Houston. He suggests that Western Kentucky would get the nod from C-USA...but imagine what could actually happen if it was a Sun Belt vs Conference USA matchup as he predicts...we could actually see one of the greatest bowls of all time.

Who We Think Will Play in the 2025 Independence Bowl

Look, both ESPN predictions think the Big 12 won't fulfill their obligation to the Independence Bowl. If that happens, and the Sun Belt is in their place, there's only one answer: they must send the Ragin' Cajuns. Then, Conference USA has to do the right thing, and send Louisiana Tech back. Creating the greatest matchup of ALL TIME...UL-Lafayette versus Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl.

However...we don't agree with the ESPN idea that the Big 12 won't have enough teams. It really looks like there will just be one Big 12 team in the College Football Playoffs, and that will probably be Texas Tech. That means the Big 12 can fill their spot.

With the Big 12 having enough teams, it's likely that Kansas State will be their representative. We also still believe that Louisiana Tech owes it to the Independence Bowl to return, and that its in the best interest of the bowl to have Tech back. So that paints us into a particular scenario...Kansas State versus Louisiana Tech in the Indy Bowl. Just like Athlon Sports suggested.

I think us playing Louisiana Tech would be great. To be honest, we probably match up better with Tech than we do with ULM when it comes to competition.

As far as Rivalry Saturday the truth is, ULM and Tech are the real rivals. That’s because North Louisiana doesn’t have the same big population as South Louisiana, and those two schools are only about 30 miles apart. When you put that close distance together with years of history, it creates a lot of bad blood.

Both schools really dislike each other, and it doesn’t matter if the game is at Tech or ULM they’re going to pack the stadium with 25,000 or more fans. The energy would be wild, the game would be a dog fight, and honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if fights broke out on the field. That’s just how heated that rivalry would be. It almost be like West Monroe and Ruston HS playing each other on another level.

For us, though, we’re kind of the third wheel in that situation. We don’t have the same level of rivalry with either school, so it’s hard to insert ourselves into that mix.

That’s why I think our best option for a big end-of-season game is with Arkansas State. That game always come down to the wire.
