What other public university in Louisiana is about to spend nearly $100 million for a coach not to coach? If there is another, then absolutely the petition should apply to them too.

If a university can afford to pay out $56 million for one coach to sit at home and collect checks, plus millions more for buyouts and new staff, then there’s no justification for continuing to funnel taxpayer money through Capital Outlay or any other public funding source to support their athletic programs.

Bad hires and mismanagement shouldn’t come at the expense of families struggling to get by. Public funds should be spent where they make a difference — not to cover the financial fallout of a university’s poor athletic decisions.

States help fund athletic infrastructure of their public universities. It’s what it is. Alabama and Mississippi do the same thing.

Do you believe a high school kid shouldn’t be allowed to qualify for TOPS or any other public university academic scholarship if their parents make “too much money”?

Some of you obsess over LSU way too much and don’t pay enough attention to right here in Lafayette and our leadership’s own self-inflicted errors…or corruption.

If our state’s flagship university can afford to spend more than $60 million to hire a new football coach — on top of paying buyouts for former staff — then it’s time to question why taxpayers are still footing the bill for athletic facility improvements through Capital Outlay or any other public funding mechanism.

Taxpayer dollars should prioritize education, infrastructure, and community needs, not subsidize athletic programs that already operate with massive budgets and private revenue streams. It would be great to see someone put pressure on our elected officials to end the use of public funds for LSU's athletic purposes and demand better accountability for how our tax dollars are spent.
None of that is taxpayer dollars

So you believe all universities are getting an equal share of state funding — or that kids whose parents make “too much money” should actually receive more than those whose parents make less?

Also, regardless of income, not all students receive TOPS or receive the same amount. It’s based on academic performance — a reflection of how well someone does with the resources and opportunities they have, not their family’s income. That’s why comparing TOPS to state funding for athletic facilities isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison. One rewards individual achievement for performing well; the other continues to reward institutions that haven’t.

Meanwhile, millions of families across America are struggling to put food on the table — yet we’re expected to accept spending $100 million so a coach can not work. That’s the real imbalance.

As it was put to me by someone who worked a long time on the academic side, UL’s financial problems are result of the Fossil and T-Joe and their hell bent drive for being known as a research university and R-1.

I told this person about the dome with the R-1 banner but no football championship banner, after the laughter stopped, they said “figures, that was their goal”.

They both ignored the basic mission, undergraduate students. That’s the driver.

That has NOTHING to do with coaching salaries or buyouts, other than optics

Which begs the question, if it’s ok for tsab to let the donors buy out their coach, why can’t we?

So if they were paying for all of their own facility upgrades and expansions, do you really think they’d still have $80+ million lying around to buy out coaches? They’re already scraping for revenue with jersey sponsors — that’s Peewee-level stuff for a program that claims to be elite. And now they’re hiking ticket and parking prices in the middle of one of their worst seasons. There’s a reason for this new low — it shows they can’t keep up with the real heavyweights when it comes to money.

Yes “they” the ones finding it can spend THEIR money how THEY wish - if THEY didn’t spend it on NIL or Coach Buyout THEY would not spend it on anything tsab . . . comficious say if you don’t understand get out of the conversation
