There have always been and always will be people who despise spending money on sports programs and would rather it go to useless academic projects or made up curriculums. The value for having a thriving, nationally competitive sports program, specifically football, is not seen by these people and never will. They will just want to reap the benefits.
Odd statement, derailed his own article??
To be fair, it’s not uncommon for athletics to lose money — LSU’s athletics department has been doing so for the past three years, although its financial woes are related to the popularity of its athletes, rather than public disinterest in them.
Firing Dr. Maggard won't fix all the problems listed in that article.
They never understood how a highly successful football program actually helps to increase enrollment. We've seen that time after time at other universities. And, how do we promote the university? We don't fully support athletics and we have a lame commercial about a ballet kid with a dream. We are R1 and no one knows that or even knows its significance. We have unused property around the athletic campus that can be leased and developed into an entertainment district with a revenue stream and we leave it vacant. Haven't we ever learned anything? The university is supposed to be an educator yet can't effectively manage itself.
They don’t like sports ball at the Current. Very few universities finish in the black every year.
"Can UL afford to subsidize its football aspirations"
Can advertisers afford to subsidize their projected $455 billion ad spend budget in 2025?
Cant afford not to.
