The job was a top G5 HC job at the time, and we all expected a national search, and yet we all found out it the national search was never done. Instead, the job was given to the only coach left behind by Napier, because Napier said he would "continue the cULture." Des had no college HC experience at the time.

    That being said:
I want more than anything for Coach Des to work out and for him to be out coach as he is one of us.
"Continuity hire." Like Dennis Allen after Sean Payton left the Saints. Don't shake up what has been successful.

I want him to succeed too.

. Coach Dez has had more success as a head coach than Dennis Allen ever will. Last season the Cajuns had a regular season winning percentage of over 80 percent. I don’t think Allen ever came close to that.

What makes you think we could have easily gotten him?

His contract when we hired Des was almost a copy of what we offered Des.

    More than money.

At the time Louisiana would have been a definite move up.

settled into a successful program that was his and there he was not a head coach leaving WK to a place with plenty of NIL money and the advent of open transfers - you don’t think he and any other coach considering the Louisiana job would have known that Louisiana was about to get gutted of all the NFL talent and even more . . . how naive a thought and in line with the thoughts that a national search under these circumstances would have brought better at the pay level Louisiana could afford . . .

Coaches who are confident in their ability don't see what you mentioned as a liability.

If that fear logic held water (not that it shouldn't) no high school recruit would would sign with a talent graveyard.

They've never experienced failure and can't picture it.

Same with coaches, they are attracted to top-25 programs.

The mindset is "I can do what he did, only better."

Irrelevant though, since no search was made.

If we have to find a new HC in a couple years, you know who will be near the top of the list? Tyson Helton.

In every sense, a move from WKU/CUSA to UL/SBC would be an upgrade.

But, I think someone else may scoop him up before we get the chance.
