compared to the cost of the coaches proposed or demanded by this site - it was an extremely reasonable budget hire . . .

I wanted Tyson Helton from WKU. We could have easily gotten him.

I believe so had a bunch of incentives he was hitting with conference championships, bowl wins, 10 wins, etc.
Billy was offered 3 million a year to stay, but he went for 7 million a year and a large buy out at Florida. Can't blame him. Don't know where we would have came up with 3 million a year, but evidentially the money was there somehow.

That's right. 400k base with a ton of extras built in that Billy was indeed hitting.

Given our budget issues now, it may have been for the best. Who knows. Billy may have been able to continue what he was doing.

On the other hand, Des hosted a Championship 3 years later, so there's that. We almost did it without paying out the nose. But did it at the expense of 2 losing seasons in between.

My gripe was no national search.

    "Who wants a million bucks?"

    Turbine,
I think that is the gripe of most Cajun fans. We were at a point where we had two Conference championships back to back. Only lost a handful of games, multiple bowl wins. The job was a top G5 HC job at the time, and we all expected a national search, and yet we all found out it the national search was never done. Instead, the job was given to the only coach left behind by Napier, because Napier said he would "continue the cULture." Des had no college HC experience at the time.

    That being said:
I want more than anything for Coach Des to work out and for him to be out coach as he is one of us.
