She just found out she will have to pay for an important out of town conference out of her own pocket. That is after being awarded a grant for the trip which included the travel and lodging cost. That is just a small example of how serious this situation is. Of course raising revenue is a must for athletics. However, I think some other expense reductions will be needed. I would not be surprised if we reduce the no. of "analysts" on the football staff. Right now each position coach has one working for them. I could see that being reduced to 1 for 2 position coaches. Next time there are football openings, you may end up with 2 money games and only 5 home games. As much as you guys will complain, don't be surprised to see basketball have some non D1 games again. You pay Loyola 15 grand to come here vs 50 to 60 grand for SWAC type schools. I would expect basketball to play more money road games as well and not to participate in those MTE's which give us extra games. I also think baseball and softball will play some non D1 home games as well. Tough message here but unless we get a true athletic sugar daddy willing to provide us millions and not hundreds of thousands, we will have no choice but to make some of the moves I describe here.
The problem with grants is that you have to front the costs and get reimbursed on the back end. The University doesn't really have enough money to front the costs at the moment.

Things will be dire for a year or two, but UL will recover. We just had the largest freshman class in history. Growth like that will solve a lot of problems.

You have any other ideas how to cut costs? It was pointed out earlier that we are not streaming home volleyball games at home due to costs. Tough but needed decision. I am not sure that will continue in conference play. I would not be surprised that we have much fewer streamed diamond sports games in the spring. Conference baseball games are required to be streamed but You may see few non conference games streamed. Again, if someone puts up the dolllars for this feature, that may not happen.

Instead of "paying teams" to come here to play. How about split the gate with them?
Are we paid for every road game??

If they would publish brwakdowns of these costs maybe we could figure this out or donors could donate certain portions. I cant imagine it costs that much, d3 schools do it, the brother martin jesuit football game was on web last night "for free".
How about Show the games without announcers

Mike, first, THANK YOU for the insight.

I do have a question, though.

Does our basketball team and our diamond sports have to pay other non-conference D1 programs to play at our place? If so, I didn't realize that.

99.5% bro. That will be the final straw. Already gave away all my fb season tickets. What a waste of money. Thaught about getting four season tickets to basketball but I know White will bolt within two years. Not wasting my time for these potential up and down seasons.
