After my first spring practice and game, my QB coach told me to throw wet footballs to strengthen my arm over the summer. Don't think they do that anymore.
But to Turbine's point, a good throwing motion uses many different parts of the body besides the arm. Being accurate is a result of those muscle groups being in sync. If 1 part of these groups is built up to be stronger than the others, accuracy could be affected.
I never realized how much you use your lower back throwing a football until I threw a lot after several years of not throwing at all.
When the game slows down for DB, his touch will return. His throws so far this season have mostly missed on the high side. That’s just youth, nerves, excitement. He will improve, just not sure how long it will take or how much he'll improve.
Well in the off-season they can’t get hit everyday..in season you can get your head taken off every play. High throws can simply be putting weight on his front foot instead of the back, we always see accuracy improve as the season goes because they progress. Other than Levi Lewis what QB’s have we had that came here and stayed on the field?
While this may be true, the biggest concern that I have is that he has missed on so many elementary throws with many being under no real pressure and that is concerning. Thankfully, he can't really do anything but improve so hopefully his ceiling is higher than I think it is.
I can understand coaches not being comfortable throwing across the middle if they don't have trust in the guy throwing the rock. But, it's often the middle of the field where defenses struggle to cover effectively. Look at the plays that hurt us against mcleast, the slant-in that went for 50+ yards. It was the same with Billy with LL, but I think that was primarily due to his height. He did throw long over the middle, but the ball is elevated quickly to make that type of throw. DB is 6'2" so the concern for height isn't necessarily at issue here, I just think it's smart to let him get his feet wet more, before we start exploiting the coverage of opposing defenses.
Hey, we lost Carter & Broussard to NIL; and Legrand & Bernard to graduation. We basically have very little to no experience on the throwing or catching end. I hate NIL. We will always be on the short end. As soon as someone gets good; big money buys them.
