This is time stamped but the fact remains (all these years later) that no one will lobby for someone who isn't lifting a finger to help themselves.

That is a great point, so why did the pick the SBC to lobby over CUSA?

Was it possibly because the Sunbelt was desperate (at the time) with Louisiana left to hold it together?

Again, nothing like leaving actual facts in context. Tulane had only one vote, and they didn't pull the trigger because the Fossil shot it down. He refused to pay the $1M entrance fee. So, there was no vote actually because UL was not going to put up the money although we had several people actually willing to pay the fee provided the budget would increase to support our program once the move was finalized. Both were shot down by our former president.

"no one will lobby" (or vote) "for someone who isn't lifting a finger to help themselves."

You definitely make us sound like an anchor but not the good kind.

Because before THEY joined the SBC was the bottom feeder conference. THEY are a huge part of why we aren’t anymore.

Let me correct myself, there was a preliminary vote, but they were waiting on UL to show a commitment, including an entrance fee.

Yes, I agree Turbine generally in life that is a true statement. Where I disagree is in applying this statement to what Maggard did or didn't do in the context of the Pac 8 at this time.

The former president did not give a crap about athletics long term or the growth of it. So he killed most ideas and offers by those people that had the funds because he feared the growth of athletics.

In no way do I see that in Dr. Maggard. In fact, he continues to push for facility improvements like the stadium because no matter how much money you throw at an opportunity, what you have to offer is your brand. The difference is he has spent money and lost over $8M this past fiscal year. He has a boss that is in his last months or year of his tenure that has been told by state auditors that you will not do it again! No large deficits in the budget. No matter what other states are allowing, losing money in most programs is common knowledge, our state government has put the hammer down.

He's not perfect in any manner, but the guy understands that college athletics is a business, and he has to work within the parameters that he is given.

Without Louisiana the Sunbelt would have gone the way of the Big West Conference....

...Another one that eventually crumbled without Louisiana.
