Well, you do know A LOT of people. LOL
Yes, I am definitely a stats guy. Offensively, I pay more attention to runs produced/plate appearances than any other stat. Runs produced = Runs scored + RBI - HR. Plate appearances = AB+BB+HBP+SH+SF. I believe this to be a very accurate measure of a player's offensive effectiveness; much better than BA or SLG.
I definitely agree with you that UL is the right school for both girls; I am just withholding judgement on whether they will contribute significantly here, as each only has about 1/3 the plate appearances of a typical season. IMO that is not a big enough sample size to be able to predict future performance.
I'm born and raised in Lafayette. Been a fan for several years but the last 12-15 I am more so a fan of the players individually across many programs. I typically sit in the family section as most games I am on the guest pass list (or whatever it's called) when I can make the games.
Sounds like you’re pretty familiar with a lot of girls around the area. I’ll ask this since you’re still pretty new around here and more insight is great, what do you think of the Cajuns incoming recruiting class? I think there’s one or two that will be able to help us, but feel we missed on a few, like Emma Bailey from STM. Thoughts?
I do Coach travel softball. Not a big secret, not that anyone cares but my name is Chris. lol
I'm not sure it's a "family section" but its the section you are seated when on the "Will call" list as someone's guest. And most times it is with / around other guests / family members that are put on the will call list as well.
I would like to think I am pretty plugged in through the softball world. I will say this, I am familiar enough to have an opinion but smart enough not to share said opinion in an open forum.
Honestly, just out of respect for each of those young ladies and their families my personal opinion is irrelevant. In my experiences over the years seeing players through the process, what a player is through HS and travel ball is very seldom an absolute indication of what they will be in College once all the underlying factors come into play. Sure, you have to be good in both HS and travel ball BUT, I think "tools" are much more important than any stat ever (all due respect VO). As I have mentioned in my earlier comments, so many factors go into determining these young ladies productivity its extremely hard to predict.
I personally pull for the individual athletes in hopes that they each have great experiences, perform at their best with confidence and can leave any program a better individual than when they got there. If they can do those things, they have been successful in my humble opinion. I know that's not the answer most on here want to hear, but it's just my take on it.
PS, I will say I personally believe Emma Bailey has the tools to compete athletically at UL. Not sure why she wasn't given an opportunity but it was a miss in my opinion. I wish her nothing but the best during her time at Creighton and I pray she is successful and makes their program better.
