Thread: Softball Offseason

Noted and respect your opinion as I've seen here you are a stats guy.

Just seems to a common folk to be a bit harsh to say "only Marceaux had good numbers" when it seems as though it's splitting hairs at 11 hits in 38 AB's for Manning vs. 13 hits in 42 AB's for Kennedy. Especially if you do a deep dive into those numbers for a relevant comparison.

Also, my stance here isn't a Madyson vs. Kennedy comparison as I know both personally and think the world of each of them. I am excited that BOTH have decided to be Ragin Cajuns because I think its a great FIT for both, regardless of numbers.

I was just genuinely curious as to what numbers you were looking at to come to that conclusion.

Also, it shouldn't really matter if it was over 1 season or 7 if the "opportunities" were the same (i.e. plate appearances/AB's) no?

Seems like me and you might know each other.

Yes, I am definitely a stats guy. Offensively, I pay more attention to runs produced/plate appearances than any other stat. Runs produced = Runs scored + RBI - HR. Plate appearances = AB+BB+HBP+SH+SF. I believe this to be a very accurate measure of a player's offensive effectiveness; much better than BA or SLG.

I definitely agree with you that UL is the right school for both girls; I am just withholding judgement on whether they will contribute significantly here, as each only has about 1/3 the plate appearances of a typical season. IMO that is not a big enough sample size to be able to predict future performance.

How long have you been a fan and what section do you sit in. Most of the time you can see me chatting it up pre game with VObserver.

I do know a lot of people but my circle is still on the smaller side.

I'm born and raised in Lafayette. Been a fan for several years but the last 12-15 I am more so a fan of the players individually across many programs. I typically sit in the family section as most games I am on the guest pass list (or whatever it's called) when I can make the games.

Sounds like a travel ball coach. I believe I know who you are. I didn't know they have a family section. I see players folks sitting in all different sections.

Sounds like you’re pretty familiar with a lot of girls around the area. I’ll ask this since you’re still pretty new around here and more insight is great, what do you think of the Cajuns incoming recruiting class? I think there’s one or two that will be able to help us, but feel we missed on a few, like Emma Bailey from STM. Thoughts?

I do Coach travel softball. Not a big secret, not that anyone cares but my name is Chris. lol

I'm not sure it's a "family section" but its the section you are seated when on the "Will call" list as someone's guest. And most times it is with / around other guests / family members that are put on the will call list as well.
