Thread: The Book 2009 LAdy Cajuns Softball

  1. UL Softball Long games will help Lady Cajuns down the road

Coaches can't plan adversity, but it's always nice to experience it early in the season.

The UL softball coaches didn't plan on playing 19 innings on Friday before turning around and playing the early game on Saturday and having their late game with Kentucky rained out in the third inning.

But it happened nonetheless and the Cajuns (10-2) survived the test unscathed as they wrapped up the three-day Mardi Gras Invitational with a 5-0 win over San Diego State on Sunday at Alfred and Helen Lamson Park to finish the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record.

Looks like LSU will be at the Lead Off Classic in Georgia as well this weekend:

The two teams cross again, but not on the Playing field, until its about the kids again. LOL. I could care less if we ever play them.

I guessed we'd move to 15 but this is good. More votes, slowly but surely

I can't believe #'s 17-18 dropped out but #19 A&M only dropped 3 spots after a TERRIBLE weekend. I promise if that were us we'd be out

  8. UL Softball Lady Cajuns Headed to the 14th Annual NFCA Leadoff Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga.-The South Commons Stadium & Complex and the Columbus Sports Council will once again play host to the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic. The tournament is scheduled to take place February 27-March 1, 2009. This will be the 14th consecutive season in which the South Commons Complex has hosted the tournament.

The Leadoff Classic has established itself as one of college softball’s premier tournaments, sending seven of its 13 previous champions to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series.

This year’s field once again features some of the top collegiate teams in the nation, including nine teams that were ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Top 25 Poll and another three that received votes. Fifteen teams in this year’s field advanced to the 2008 NCAA tournament, including three Women’s College World Series participants, making the 14th Annual Leadoff Classic another battle of some of the nation’s best collegiate teams.

The nine preseason-ranked teams scheduled for the 2009 Leadoff Classic include No. 3 Alabama, No. 6 Louisianan, No. 8 Michigan, No. 9 Northwestern, No. 13 Houston, No. 15 DePaul, No. 19 LSU, No. 20 Virginia Tech and No. 22 Georgia. Alabama, Louisiana and Virginia Tech all appeared in the 2008 WCWS with the Crimson Tide finishing tied for third, the Ragin’ Cajuns tied for fifth and the Hokies tied for seventh. Michigan and Northwestern tied for the 2008 Big Ten Championship, with Northwestern taking the tournament championship and both teams advancing to Super Regionals.

Three additional tournament participants, Hofstra, UMass and Mississippi State received votes in the season-opening poll, while Florida State, Georgia Tech and Long Island round out the list of 15 schools at this year’s Leadoff that appeared in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Illinois State, Nebraska, Penn State, Ohio State, South Carolina and Southern Illinois round out the 21-team field.

Play is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 27, with games beginning on each of the facility’s six fields.
