AAU - only 71 schools qualify. Tulane is the only AAU university in Louisiana. All BIG 10 schools are AAU, I believe a requirement for membership.

Not true. Close to being true, but Nebraska is not a member. They were, if I am not mistaken, but voluntarily surrendered their membership.

No, Nebraska was expelled shortly after joining the Big 10 (though that was just a coincidence) because their research dollars were below the minimum.

Well as one of the newest members one would think we rose to that point, are any of the old members at a point where if they were current applicants they might not make it?

Partly because many "University ofs" are also the State's Ag college, though some "States" are also the primary University in their state [The Ohio State University, for example].
