Thread: Ragin Cajun CFP chances

Honestly, the most likely best case scenario moving forward is winning out, winning the SBC on our home field, then having the chance to beat another P5 in some bowl game. I doubt Boise will lose another game, and even then it probably won't be enough to leapfrog ahead of them.

A 13-1 record and Top 25 ranking, combined with a bowl win against a good P5 team, would mean the world for us next season. That would be a good silver medal for us if the playoffs don't work out.

The only realistic shot we have is if both MWC and AAC championship games end in upsets.

Not counting their first opponent FCS Lehigh, their opponents are a combined 24-49, with only ECU and N. Texas having winning records (both are 5-4). To be fair, they have crushed most of their opposition, their average margin of victory against FBS opponents is 23.6. But again, roughly half their opponents are 2-7 on the year and everyone is beating those teams by three touchdowns or more. So I'm not sure what that means except that they have not really been tested yet.

Hey, maybe they are the national champs come January, I'd love that, but I see them losing somewhere between now and the playoffs starting. They still have to play Notre Dame
(8-1), UTSA (4-5), then will probably be in the AAC championship game against Tulane (8-2) on Dec. 6 and then (on Dec. 14) they play a conference game against Navy (7-1). Not sure how that works out if Army defeats Tulane for the AAC championship (which would knock Tulane out of our way), then if Army loses to Navy a week later that would drop them in the final CFP polls.

IF, IF, IF the Cajuns win out and go 12-1 and if Army loses to Notre Dame and Navy we could finish ahead of a 11-2 Army team who wins the AAC championship game on Dec. 6 then loses to Navy on Dec. 14, slips in the polls, and the Cajuns move ahead of them.

Of course, none of this takes in account Boise St.
The Army Navy game will occur after the CFP selection committee makes their decisions.

Yep: 91% sure this is our best case scenario

I'd consider that possibly our best season ever..

    Ranked
    Barely miss playoff
Two P4 wins - one in a decent bowl game
DIDNT lose by 50 to Ohio State
NOT the team everyone uses as an example to remove the G5 bid
Door open to market the hell out of "next year"

Look at 4 of the last 5 National Championship games, all blow outs.

Make the CFP regardless of the result of the game. The fricken CFP payout alone is $4M to the program! One appearance is 10% of our budget.

Split with 13 other conference members.
