Out of Conference Scheduling

Wow how sad is it when UL has a stronger out of conference schedule than LSU. Miles knows how to get a couple easy ones, he sure needed em last year.

LSU's OOC schedule is always weak, I'll agree. But why do you think they do that?

Answer: Because their OOC doesn't matter. If they win the SEC, they will play in the national championship (most years), so why not pad the schedule with a few cupcakes to preserve the X-0 record for the SEC run? Last year would have been different since the SEC was weaker than normal (i.e a 2 loss SEC team probably wouldn't have gotten in the NC).

Yea I love when I hear all this BS from a&m@br about USC's "soft" schedule. USC annually takes on one of the toughest Non Conference schedules of anyteam. You dont see any UL's on their schedule. Last year they played Virgina, Ohio State and Notre Dame. Granted Notre Dame has been on a down cycle but you dont know that when you schedule them. In the past they have played Arkansas, Nebraska and other BCS schools. Contrast this to a&m@br's non conference... Tulane, Troy, Appalachian, North Texas... then add in your Mississippi States and Kentucky's and you have a guaranteed 6 wins... So they play 3 or 4 tough games and they all whine about how tough they have it... BS.....

Is isn't just State, it's a lot of BCS programs. Nebraska could well win the SBC title in 2009. It's about the money they genertae from the extra homes games that they do not have to return AND it virually assures them of winning records for bowl eligibility.

I am not so sure that is true... I am not saying the SEC is not #1 but not by the margin of difference they (a&m@br fans) would say...When you get past Ville Platte and Jennings, you get a different view of how much better the SEC is. The Pac 10 games are late night games.... long after the 90,000 have passed out into jack Daniels bliss.. dreaming of thier 93-3 victory over a Sun belt team (oh wait.... lol).. and they really dont get to see them play... so it is easy to join the herd of your fellow believers and say the SEC is far and away the best.... not so fast my friend....

USC would excel in the SEC as a&m@br does... a&m@br would excel in the Pac 10 but I just wonder if they did not have the UL's and the Appalachian "scrimmages" at the beginning of the season... if they opened with Ohio State for example... how well they would do.

The thing is perception, USC needs the boost, they would get very little respect if they played LSU's out of conference schedule.

Your points about SEC>Pac10 bias is well taken. But like most stereotypes, there is some truth to it. The PAC-10 was super weak this year (and previous years). If USC was taken out of the PAC-10 it'd be weaker than the Big East.

USC knows the only way to get to the NC is to win the PAC-10 and have an impressive OOC. It doesn't make them any more noble IMO, they just are working with what they have: a comparably weaker conference schedule.
