that's why i said "final" instead of biggest. until mizzou and wvu lost, a weighing of two loss teams was a non-issue. but once the comparisons started, it was lsu's win over va tech that broke that "tie." ga. not being a conference champion was the other. but i think you and i see the deal pretty much the same way.

Are you sure it wasnt Les "Purple Tie" Miles and his wacko impromptu conference were he declared that he had a damn strong team that then went out and struggled mightly against a bad, bad, did i mention bad Volunteers team that allowed Erik Ainge one last chance to sabotage his own life by throwing 2 picks in the 4th quarter. WVU and Mizzou, no way it was the conference and the power exuded by Miles that made Pat White get hurt, and Mizzou suck all of a sudden. That guy is powerful, when he said damn strong team, three unwed teenage mothers in baton rouge dropped premies because of the power in his voice.

The carrousel came around, the ring was there and they grabbed it. That's just the way it happens sometimes.

Which was right after he lost to an UNRANKED Ar-Kansas team in VAUNTED tiggger stadium and yet somehow leapfrogged Oklahoma who destroyed the then #1 team in the nation on a neutral field.... still scratching my head over that one.

While I agree the system is highly inefficient. Attempting to shoot holes in the accomplishments of a team that has won a couple of National Championships lately sure seems a bit silly on our part.

tho' i give you little chance of success, if you were to somehow talk ihate and 'hawk out of their propensity for anti-lsu rants, you would make me, and so many people i know, VERY, VERY, VERY unhappy. please desist at once.

carry on, boys; by the way, what did y'all think of the '03 c'ship?

When talking about strength of schedule, should you only talk about the non-conference slate, or talk about the entire body of work? According to Jeff Sagarin, LSU ended up with the #33 toughest schedule in 2008. Meanwhile, UL came in at #114. It should also be noted that at least three BCS participants (OSU #46, PSU #55, Utah #56) came in lower than LSU. IF LSU would have been in position to play in the SECCG, one can only assume there SOS would be significantly higher. In 2007, LSU came in at #20 in SOS. IF your goal is to contend for national titles, then it makes perfect sense. Why would you load up on your OCC when you know you will be facing possibly 5 ranked teams during conference play? Not to mention that LSU's permanent opponent from the East is Florida.

He wasn't talking about SOS. He was talking about OOC scheduling. I think we, UL, are very likely, by virtue of the "money games", to have a pretty rough OOC schedule. L$U, on the other hand, does enjoy being on the opposite side of that equation... and can afford it.

Exactly, that is why the comparison doesn't even make sense. LSU or any other SEC team would be foolish to load up their OCC schedule. When it's all said and done, the schedules will more than likely balance out nicely. As far as the Miles part is concerned, Saban never loaded up the non-conference schedule at LSU.

Hence the rest of the country, beyond Ville Platte, recognizes that the best team in the country in 03 was USC... Excellent post

This thread is a pretty good indicator that things must not be going so well in LALA land. The thread was obviously started to take a cheap shot at LSU and has now turned into a lovefest for a school located 1,800 miles away. It's going to be a looooong spring for the LSU "haters" considering the Tigers are primed to make a serious run at an SEC Championship in both basketball and baseball. Regardless of how you try to spin it, any school in their right mind would cherish winning 2 BCS titles. No worries, just continue thumping your chest behind another scool such as USC, Alabama, etc.
