And I agree. It should never be personal.
Everyone needs to be respectful towards others who’s opinion they disagree with. One of the problems of social media is the ease which people can insult others. It is possible that the person who calls your podcast negative really Believes that is the case. They can choose not to listen but there is no reason to insult them. You also don’t have to change as your podcast is an “opinion”. By the same token calling people who support the program a cult or a social club is disrespectful. Virtually all of those people will continue to help REGARDLESS of who the coach is.

Building on my last post, an opinion show is not obligated to present both sides of an issue. If you want to be critical of something without consideration of an opposing viewpoint, you have the right to do so. It will not impact the size of the audience. Of course, you should attempt to Share your opinion in a non personal fashion. Some may take it personal at times but that is to be expected.

Isn’t that kind of the point though? We aren’t called to have blind allegiance to our country or our political leaders. When leaders aren’t meeting standards or expectations, the people have to stand up and say something about it. That’s how progress is made. It’s the same way with athletics programs. We are truly the ones in power. The ones who hold the dollars. If the ones with the money continue to not have standards and blindly support, nothing will ever change. It could NEVER be me giving so many of my hard-earned dollars to such a lackluster program as basketball

I'm not to sure MAT toes any lines. MAT doesn't sugar coat anything and gives it to you raw. As M$M said keep doing the damn thing!

It doesn't matter what anybody says. UL basketball had about 800 people at the games there's a major ffing problem.

You know that I would never personally attack anyone when discussing these matters. I understand that we all support the same teams as long as they represent this university. But when we get unfairly blamed and scapegoated by multiple people in that certain group as "spreading false info" when the true reality is fan apathy, we have a right to defend ourselves and the podcast. And I would never insult anyone who did just that. They have an emotional position and that is on them. Like it was mentioned on this past episode, if they want to start their own podcast; go for it. If they don't like what we have to say, fine. Don't listen. But everyone knows why the administration statement was released in regards to Coach Marlin. And to think that this podcast had ANYTHING to do with that is just unfathomable.

As far as calling the program a cult, I do not recall any of us doing that. Personally, I would never go that far to say something like that because you're right, it's disrespectful and in bad taste. As far as the social club comment, you would have to take it up with our other hosts. I've never said that.

But I would never question YOUR fanhood. You're loyal to the program, but you're also very rational which is why I enjoy our conversations when talking about basketball! If anything, you have always given valuable feedback which is greatly appreciated.

I was talking about Gerry specifically. I like the good guy bad guy thing to a certain extent. I’m just saying it’s ok for Gerry to not be that way all the time. If need be ruffle some feathers. As for MAT he knows what I think about everything else

I think you do have a fair point here. The huge supporters of this program usually give the most money. On the other hand, I do understand the dangers of a more "complacent" approach which can sometimes rub the rest of the fan base the wrong way and not motivate them to participate in support.

Unfortunately, I think we are at that point between a rock and a hard place.

Ha appreciate the feedback! I honestly just try to be fair and understand both sides. But I do have my own views that I will sometimes show if I am passionate enough about it.

In this particular topic, I know our potential as a basketball program. But I do not think people see it like I do. Like I said, I am more of a "why not us" type fan. And I still get this "Culture of Can't" vibe by a portion of our fanbase. The reason? I don't know. But it can be frustrating at times. Like I mentioned on this past episode, people thought I was crazy when I said Napier could put us in the Top 25. "Nah, that can't happen here." Well, he did it two years in a row.

As a fanbase, we need to quit underestimating ourselves.

I think we all believe we have potential to have much greater success than what has been accomplished recently. I think people in the program believe that as they should. What the huge majority of people who participate here don’t believe is the current staff can lead that effort. I do think Dr. Maggard believes it, at least for 2022-23. Otherwise he would not have made the decision he did. I say that in all seriousness. I know many will use history to laugh at that view. It does not matter how many disagree. Key thing is HE believes it. At this stage everything that can be said about this situation has been been voiced. We will start to get an idea who is right come November. However it will be interesting to see if they can bring in a point guard who can help in spring recruiting. We have not had an effective player in that role since Marcus Stroman left in 2019.
