Please refer to my previous post. To me, a true fan doesn't just jump ship because of "mediocre" years. You either support them or not. It's simple. Fans who only support somebody when they are on top mean nothing to me because there is no loyalty. I just can't bring myself to pull for somebody's team who's playing the Saints.. It doesn't mean I don't pull for that player.
I am a Cowboys fans and have been sense I was able to walk and that will never change...I am not jumping bandwagons at all and never will. I don't consider them bandwagon fans when they are following a player. I think a lot more people these days are more attached to certain players and not the teams. Its not that they are jumping ship they are just following their guy.
It wasn't all that long ago that Jake Delhomme was a New Orleans Saint, with his football future riding on the final preseason game of the year.
CHARLOTTE -- Jake Delhomme is more than content to stand back and play cheerleader for the younger Panthers grappling for precious roster spots in Carolina's 2008 preseason finale Thursday night in Pittsburgh. After all, he was once one of those who entered the last night of the preseason clinging to the hope that there was a place for them on the 53-man roster.
"(For) those young guys -- this is your dream," he said. "To make it, it's such an honor to be able to play in the National Football League. So you're going to see a lot of us with pom-poms out there on Thursday night. That's what it's all about. I love watching the young guys play and compete.
"The ones who put in the work, the time and effort -- you want to see them succeed."
Delhomme might love watching them play, but he aches for the uncertainty in which many around the league find themselves with the final cutdown to 53 players looming at 6 p.m. Saturday. Those pangs of powerless doubt that once dominated his thoughts at the end of past preseasons remain as fresh in his mind as the memories of his performance against the Washington Redskins just five days ago.
The 1999 preseason finale in particular remains seared in his brain.
