I don't have a problem for the most part with what he said because it was the truth and he didn't throw anybody in particular under the bus. He said they missed layups, open shots and made poor decisions when they couldn't afford to. The issue I have is the philosophy in general. We shot 30 3's for a team that is dead last in the league in 3 pt percentage. Honestly, we were lucky to shoot that because Russell obviously got real hot. If you can't adjust your philosophy to address your lack of consistent shooting, that tells me all I need to know.

I’ve seen you rant about this for years but it is just simple math.

We currently shoot 32% from 3. This adds up to 0.96 pts. per shot.

In order to get the same points per shot from a midrange shot we’d have to shoot 48% from midrange. We are currently shooting 47% inside the arc, but I promise you our midrange shot percentage is much much lower than 47%. Statistically, midrange shots are nearly as hard to make as 3pt shots.

When you actually break down the numbers it’s not even close. Even on a bad 3pt shooting team, shooting threes is always the best option.

I don't get upset with whatever people say here as boards like this are for sharing opinions and venting. I get repetitive myself sometimes. For example a repetitive statement of mine that warrants being said again is; those who say that next year will be too late to make a change in basketball are assuming that we can't have a big year next year. Too often that view is presented as FACT when it is only OPINION. If you are so confident that next season won't be a good one, go to Vegas. I also know that at times what is said here has little influence on decisions while at other times it does. The basketball coaching staff situation at this time is not influenced by comments here. In a year, that may be different and that could go either way.

Mike, your a die hard MBB fan. Cajuns style. I respect you for that.. I'm a caual fan as I have stated more than once. This brand of MBB over a decade has not moved the needle for ME. But damn I applaud your persistence. You want to believe. Loyal and true.. Props to you. Every sport needs fans like you.. Once again, I applaud your faith.

The program absolutely needs die hard fans, just not too many. If we had 30K diehards we’d still have Baldwin, heck Stokely would never have been released. It’s the bandwagon fans not the diehards who ultimately create change.

No argument here.. I just wanted to tel Mike that his fandom is appreciated. I have many people who ask why my wife and I are such die hard UL fans and support OUR University so hard. My response is the always the same, "You have to be one to understand!".

I do believe nothing in sports causes fans not to pay attention more than a baseball team weak at the plate. In the previous few seasons the bats eventually come around. Let's hope that happens again or you will see crowds diminish rapidly in that sport.

Fans can be fickle.. sooner or later people have enough of the same old same old. I truly hope for turn around in all our sports. Poor attendance in one hurts the rest..

Reason mid range shots are not made at a high percentage is because people don’t practice them. Often, you can get an excellent shot from mid range if you set it up properly. For example, Jalen
Johnson is an excellent mid range guy and should shoot more of them. Lately he has been much better at the elbow than from three

The great thing about the mid range is you’re far more likely to get to the free throw line. To me a mid range is anything longer than a layup. I’d be surprised if there’s even four fouls on three point attempts on a typical game.

This is not true. NBA players shoot 40-45% from midrange. I don't have the stats for NCAA but it is probably safe to assume they are in the 35-40% range. But even at 40% you aren't making enough shots to justify taking a midrange over a 3pt shot. Again, it comes down to points per shot. If you are a good college midrange shooter you'll
shoot 40% from midrange which gives you 0.8pps. Meanwhile even the very worst 3pt shooting teams are still shooting 30% from 3 which adds up to 0.9pps. The bad 3pt shooters are still scoring more points than the good midrange shooters.

I may be mistaken but I feel that this was your same message last season as well.

The message being that we should all stop asking for a better product on the court and support the crap that is being force fed to us fans because the decision has already been made to keep Marlin around.

So sit down, shut up, and give me your money...ok, I think I got it.
