But I also believe a better barometer of the program is the regular season. If you go out and win 27 games and win your regular season championship by four games, you've had a helluva year.

But judging by some of the debates I've had on this board, there are several who believe losing in the league semifinals without two key figures on your team negates anything you did during a 31 game regular season.

I'll take it a step farther. Jessie's 2004 team won the west and was the #1 seed. But there were divisions and they didn't award a regular season title. We tied for the title in 2000 with South Alabama and won the tournament.

But Marlin's 2018 title was the first outright regular season title since we joined the Sun Belt. That's right. It had not been done in 27 seasons. It also never happened in the American South. You have to go back to Paschal's team that won the Southland the final year we were in the league to get the last outright regular season championship and that was 35 years ago.

And most on this board ignore that fact.

So, I guess those who think the regular season title is a better barometer of your program are in a distinct minority.
Billy Kennedy just got let go from from TAMU two years removed from an SEC title and NCAA and COY honors. He had major injury issues to deal with this season, with his two best players going down.

I absolutely can see circumstances when a trip to the NCAA is a failure as a season. Being a 💩team for the regular season and getting hot, lucky, whatever winning the tournament isn’t a successful season.

Great examples of fundamentally failing for decades isn’t a commendation of the Big Fish. He’s 8 wins in 9 seasons of the tournament. Thinking three wins in a single season. So his standard of three games in March is pretty bleak.

In any case the argument is Bob is mired in mediocrity. Because others may have had similar issues isn’t an endorsement. What you’re actually arguing is why pick on Bob? We fired Marty, and Lee. Jesse got a bigger gig allegedly. Big Fish is going for a decade, and maybe a backers dozen of futility.

Are the fans to expect upper average as the high water mark and shut the FK up?

    9 years into this tenure:
    1 NCAA Tournament Apperance
1 Out Right Sun Belt Regular Season Championship
    1 Sun Belt Tourney Championship

I think at this point in year 10 he better make some noise.

My comment was made to neither extol or condemn coach Marlin.
My opinion was asked about whether I shared the view that three games in March was all that mattered.

My response was I feel both are important. I also stated most on this board view success on NCAA Tournament bids (which in this league, is about three days in March).

Your response confirmed my opinion about what most here view as success.

Your response that no one cares about regular season titles shows your ignorance. Nothing speaks more volumes to the overall stability of your program than success in the regular season.

I am well aware what NCAA appearances mean, Captain Obvious.

But you did prove my point in my response to Zephyr.

I’d have very little complaints if were were in the NIT 3 out of 5 years.

Why does it have to be one or the other?

Why can't we have a great regular season and a great sun belt tournament?

Why can't we be in the mix for post season 3 out of every 5 years?

I don't always agree with you and VO. Especially when you guys quit criticizing and morph into bashing. (It doesn't happen often, but it does happen).

But I respect you guys, because I think you get how important it is to be good on a continuous basis and not be NCAA or bust people.

Most people around the league were blown away when Scott Cross was fired. He was fired by an AD because he lost ONE game...in the league tournament the year they won the regular season title.

Now he's at Troy. And, he'll do well there.
