  1. UL Baseball UL's trip to #18 Tulane comes on the heels of Hunter Moody SBC Award

Over the weekend, UL pitcher Hunter Moody joined head coach Tony Robichaux in the school's record books.

Moody combined with LSU-Eunice transfer Matt Broussard for a one-hit shutout Saturday in a 4-0 win over Texas Tech in the UTSA Baseball Classic in San Antonio, Texas. Moody struck out nine batters and allowed only one hit in six innings for the nationally ranked Cajuns (2-2). He never allowed a runner to advance past second base.

It was the first time in 24 years two Cajun pitchers combined for a one-hit shutout. The last to do it - Robichaux and former Major Leaguer Xavier Hernandez in a 6-0 win over Northwestern State on Feb. 22, 1984.

  5. UL Baseball Moody Named LSWA Pitcher of the Week

BATON ROUGE - One day after earned the Sun Belt Conference's top weekly pitcher honor, Louisiana senior left-handed pitcher Hunter Moody (Clinton, La.) earned the Ragin' Cajuns' first state honor of the 2008 season Wednesday as the Silliman Institute product was named the Louisiana Sportswriters Association (LSWA) Pitcher of the Week. On Tuesday, Moody was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week - the first weekly honor for the Ragin' Cajuns this season.

Moody, a Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selection, struck out nine batters in six innings of work, earning the victory against Texas Tech on Saturday at the UTSA Baseball Classic in San Antonio, Texas. Moody gave up just one hit and did not allow a runner past second base, while returning nine in a row at one point.

Moody and junior Matt Broussard (Breaux Bridge, La.) combined to throw the one-out shutout - the first since Feb. 22, 1984, when current Louisiana head coach Tony Robichaux and former Major League pitcher Xavier Hernandez accomplished the feat in a 6-0 season-opening victory at Northwestern State.

Last season, Moody earned honorable mention All-Louisiana honors after going 8-3 with a 4.13 ERA and 75 strikeouts following his 2006 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year campaign as a sophomore. In 2006, Moody was a first team All-Louisiana pick.

Louisiana returns to the diamond Wednesday when the 25th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns travel to New Orleans to square off against the 18th-ranked Tulane Green Wave at Turchin Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
