Football and basketball are “given more subsidy” than the others..it’s easier to be closer to the black when majority of your expenses are prepaid. If all the sports were forced tomorrow to supper their own programs..baseball and softball could probably do it..they have done it .the other 2 would tank.

Outside the Top 10 Football programs in the country, the rest are losing money for the most part without student fees or conference tv revenue share.

You can't buy into a bowl game my friend, sorry they are not comparable at all. There's almost zero chance a program like UL could play in a bowl game with a losing record. The CBI and CIT are jokes if you are willing to front the money. Thank God we have a AD that believes such tournaments are not worth the funds from our athletic department.

I have not heard Dr. Maggard say basketball cannot play in the buy in tournaments. Not saying that he has not made that decision. If so, it is news to me. Is it an official position now? Perhaps he would be OK with it if donors picked up the costs.

Absolutely they do, they cost a lot more also and get more help from the university that’s all im saying. We are fortunate here in that our baseball and softball programs are a lot less of a drag on the budget than majority of universities.

Last year was set up to be special and that is why that loss in the tournament hurt so much. If anything the season sacrificed for last year was 2 years ago, when he chose to have 3 scholarships sitting on the bench as transfers. He didn't choose to have 2 scholarships on the bench this year due to torn ACLs.

You live by Transfers you die by transfers much like football building a team with jucos has it's repercussions.

The ugly side of it is that we burned 3 scholarships and 3 years of development of for 1 year of success.

Forget the fact that we had 3 1,000 point scorers minus Gant and a bench that’s supposedly good enough to carry the weight.....

Again, we are a program of excuses and reasons why we CAN’T succeed. I don’t see this anywhere else in our program other than basketball. When football underachieved, we hired Napier. When baseball underachieved, Robe got us a new hitting coach. In basketball, it’s the same song and dance. “Well, the reason why we can’t do this is because of that.” No accountability whatsoever.

We also did not have Stove against UTA in the semi finals. Tough not having two of your top 6 players for any team against a quality opponent. Showed our depth was not as strong as we estimated last year. Probably would have been OK if we had only one out but two was challenging. Regarding accountability, Has anyone Asked Dr. Maggard why he gave the extension when he did? If so, what was response?

I spoke to him about last year in Houston. It's not something he is found of after listening to his comments.

If it's so unfair pay marlin 100k and pump the would be basketball money into sports that have a chance. The extra money would go a long way in other sports here. Btw Glasco & Napire have both coached in the same number of Sunbelt championship games as Marlin... imagine what they could do with 8 years and an extra few hundred thousand

That can't happen now since he has a signed contract.

Just throwing this out there, but I would say that if spending a few more bucks on softball would be what it would take to have the crowds in place to help the girls get to the WCWS, I'd gladly take that money from the basketball program.

Yes, I know........NCAA tournament $$$, eyeballs around the nation for basketball versus softball, yada yada yada......that's just how I feel.

I don't think you need to take money from any sport to help softball. Their core supporters can make up what is needed to take the next step. Appears that is happening.
