You can't buy into a bowl game my friend, sorry they are not comparable at all. There's almost zero chance a program like UL could play in a bowl game with a losing record. The CBI and CIT are jokes if you are willing to front the money. Thank God we have a AD that believes such tournaments are not worth the funds from our athletic department.
There are only 130 FBS teams so at that rate 53% are playing in bowl games. In D1 basketball there are 351 teams. So even when you throw in the CBI and CIT and the Vegas 16 that’s roughly 45% playing in the “postseason”. Very comparable in my opinion, albeit lower tier bowls are much higher on the national radar than the mid major tournaments. And I realize you don’t “buy into”a bowl game but you can sure as hell loose a heck of a lot going to one.
Exposure wise you are 100% correct, I thought I clarified that in my previous post. That’s why I stated it was an apples and oranges comparison overall. I’m talking more about the comparison of finishing near the top of the conference and continuing your season playing for something. I have always said in regards to those tournaments go in with a Jake Taylor mentality. I would never want to see a CIT final four banner hanging in the dome but I would be fine with a Championship banner.
“We lost in the Sun Belt tournament because Gant got injured.”
Forget the fact that we had 3 1,000 point scorers minus Gant and a bench that’s supposedly good enough to carry the weight.....
Again, we are a program of excuses and reasons why we CAN’T succeed. I don’t see this anywhere else in our program other than basketball. When football underachieved, we hired Napier. When baseball underachieved, Robe got us a new hitting coach. In basketball, it’s the same song and dance. “Well, the reason why we can’t do this is because of that.” No accountability whatsoever.
